{"id":49,"date":"2005-08-01T11:28:03","date_gmt":"2005-08-01T02:28:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/regex.info\/blog\/2005-08-01\/49"},"modified":"2005-08-01T11:35:39","modified_gmt":"2005-08-01T02:35:39","slug":"fixing-troubles-after-upgrading-to-firefox-106","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/regex.info\/blog\/2005-08-01\/49","title":{"rendered":"Fixing troubles after upgrading to Firefox 1.0.6"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"img_left\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.mozilla.org\/images\/product-firefox.png\" width=\"60\" height=\"60\"\nid=\"iproduct_firefox\"\/><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>After recently performing a <a\nhref=\"http:\/\/windowsupdate.microsoft.com\">Windows Update<\/a> on my WinXP\nbox, my <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mozilla.org\/products\/firefox\/\">Firefox<\/a> no\nlonger worked. <span class='nobr'>It would<\/span> start up and some of the button bars would render,\nbut most of the screen would be blank. <span class='nobr'>It was odd<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n<p>After much wailing and grinding of teeth, <span class='nobr'>I found<\/span> <span class='nobr'>a way<\/span> to solve it,\nalthough I'm not exactly sure what &#8220;it&#8221; really was, or even if\nit was related to Windows Update.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>After shutting down Firefox, <span class='nobr'>I renamed<\/span> my <b>extensions<\/b> directory,\nwhich for most people is within<\/p>\n\n<p align='center'>\n\n<b>C:\\Documents and Settings\\<\/b><i>username<\/i><b>\\Application\nData\\Mozilla\\Firefox\\<\/b><i>random<\/i><b>.default\\<\/b> <\/p>\n\n<p>I renamed it to <b>extensions-X<\/b>, the started Firefox successfully. <span class='nobr'>I then shut<\/span> Firefox down, and moved the contents of the <b>extensions-X<\/b>\ndirectory to the new <b>extensions<\/b> directory which Firefox had just\ncreated. Then, when <span class='nobr'>I restarted<\/span> Firefox again and looked at my list of\nextensions (<b>Tools &gt; Extensions<\/b>), <span class='nobr'>I found<\/span> that two, <a\nhref=\"http:\/\/216.55.161.203\/theonekea\/tabprefs\/\">Tabbrowser Preferences<\/a>\nand <a\nhref=\"http:\/\/roachfiend.com\/archives\/2005\/03\/03\/allow-right-click\/\">Allow\nRight-Click<\/a>, don't work with <span class='nobr'>Firefox 1.0.<\/span>6, to which <span class='nobr'>I upgraded<\/span> several\ndays ago.<\/p>\n\n<p>It's almost certainly Tabbrowser Preferences that caused the troubles,\nbut <span class='nobr'>I have<\/span> no explanation for why it stopped working days after <span class='nobr'>I made<\/span> the\nupgrade. <span class='nobr'>The most likely<\/span> reason is that <span class='nobr'>I didn't<\/span> actually restart Firefox\nafter installing the upgrade, and only after the Windows Update and\ncomputer reboot did <span class='nobr'>I try<\/span> the new <span class='nobr'>Firefox 1.0.<\/span>6.
