On the way to the Nanzen Temple the other day (as seen in this post<\/a> and in this post<\/a>), we stopped by\nthe location where I made<\/span> the vine on bamboo fence<\/a> shots\nlast fall. I was pleasantly<\/span> surprised to find that the same vine had come\nback to life, so decided to take some more pictures.<\/p>\n\n

In preparation, wanting to be able to set the proper color balance\nlater, I pulled<\/span> a white<\/span> business card I happened<\/span> to have from my pocket and\nasked Anthony to hold it such that it was illuminated by the same light as\nthe vine I'd be photographing.<\/p>\n\n

We'd had some minor “issues” on the way, and still had a tear<\/span> on his\ncheek from that. It was sweet<\/span>, in a way.<\/span><\/p>\n\n

He wanted to take some pictures too, so I hesitantly<\/span> left him with my\ncamera (Nikon D200 with Nikkor 17<\/span>-55 f\/2.8 zoom — way way<\/i>\nway<\/b> larger than he could easily handle) while I went<\/span> back to the\nbicycle to get something. His first<\/span> shot was a bit<\/span> shaky, but he evened out\nand got a number<\/span> of very nice shots.<\/p>\n\n

The first two above are just as they came out of the camera, but I had<\/span>\nto adjust the last one quite a bit,<\/span> since the image had exposed for the sky\nand I was<\/span> more or less just a silhouette.<\/span> Hmmm, maybe he's a smarter<\/span>\nphotographer than I thought.<\/span>... \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n\n

From the vine photoshoot we next passed one of the largest private\nestates in Kyoto. The picture<\/span> above is of the rather large garden area\noutside the main gate of the grounds. This time I was<\/span> back behind the\ncamera, as the missed focus on the bamboo indicates.<\/p>\n\n

Perhaps it's just me, but I really like the composition in the shot above.<\/p>\n\n

Elsewhere along the road, a building on the same estate had a wall<\/span> with\nthis thatched branch cover treatment. It's purely<\/span> decorative, and does its\njob well.<\/p>\n\n
