\n\nHaving visited Kibune with Aunt Jeannette<\/a> yesterday, I was reminded<\/span> of my trip\nto Kibune<\/a> a month<\/span> ago. On that trip<\/span>, we'd eaten at the northern-most\nrestaurant (Hirobun — \u3072\u308d\u6587), then made a short<\/span> climb to a mini<\/span>\n“associated shrine” area related to the larger Kibune Shrine\n(\u8cb4\u8239\u795e\u793e)<\/span> located half a kilometer<\/span> downstream.\n\n<\/p>

\n\nIt was a little, quiet area with a small<\/span> gate and a tiny<\/span> shrine. In the photo<\/span> above, the road and restaurant are out of sight below the gate.\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n

The shrine had two little places for tying wish papers, one of which is\nshown in the photo above at left. They seemed older than the mini shrine\nitself, which looked to have been recently rebuilt.<\/p>\n\n

From what I understand (which is mostly from Fumie's explanation at the\ntime, and from reading the sign above a bit<\/span>), the famous post Izumi Shikibu<\/a> (\u548c\u6cc9\u5f0f\u90e8<\/span> — born\nexactly 1,000 years before Fumie) came to the Kibune Shrine because she was\nunhappy with her relationship with her husband. She sat at<\/span> the river and\nsaw a firefly<\/span> and heard a voice<\/span> or something, blah blah blah, and\neverything was fine after that.<\/p>\n\n

So, this shrine is for relationships (family, spousal, business, etc.),\nso one might presume that the wishes are related to that. I'm not sure<\/span>\nwhether this mini shrine area commemorates the firefly\/voice thing, and\nthus is the relationship shrine, or whether the whole of the Kibune Shrine\ntook on that meaning. It doesn't really matter though... it's a quiet,<\/span>\npeaceful, photogenic place, so I'm happy to visit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
