After a long but uneventful trip, Anthony and I are<\/span> back in Japan.\n\n<\/p>

We took off from Cleveland a bit after 10am Saturday, and after an\nhour an a half<\/span> in the plane, and an hour in the terminal in Chicago, we\nwere on a flight<\/span> for Osaka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n

13.5 hours later, we arrived. The flight<\/span> took off at about 1:30 in the\nafternoon Eastern time (noon-thirty Central time, as we were in Chicago,\nbut my body was on Eastern time), and arrived at about 2am. It was a<\/span> long,\nlong flight. Anthony slept for an hour or so a few<\/span> hours after takeoff, and\nfor three or four hours toward the end of the flight. The rest of<\/span> the time\nwe looked at books, or played with stickers, or watched cartoons on the\nseat-back video monitor.<\/p>\n\n

Unusually, the lines at immigration were long and it took the better\npart of 30 minutes to clear. Then, even after that, it took 20 minutes more\nfor my two checked bags to show up. Customs went quickly, and we were into\nJapan where Fumie and her mom awaited us. After a month's<\/span> absence, Anthony\nand I were<\/span> both happy to see them.<\/p>\n\n

We loaded up the car seat and luggage into the car, and they made the\ntwo-hour drive home while I remained<\/span> at the airport. We'd planned<\/span> that I'd\nstay at the airport hotel for one night to “decompress” from\nthe flight, and try to get a jump<\/span> on my jetlag. It was a<\/span> fantastic\nmove.<\/p>\n\n

I checked in at 4:30 pm Sunday and by 5:00 I was<\/span> asleep. I woke at<\/span>\n3:30am, but after a Benadryl<\/span> and a bit<\/span> of TV, I was asleep<\/span> again until 9am.\nPerfect!<\/p>\n\n

After putzing around the hotel getting ready to go, and lunch and a\nmassage<\/span> at airport shops (the massage was more torture than anything else), I made the<\/span> hour-long train ride to Kyoto (which ended up being an hour and\na half<\/span> due to a rare<\/span> delay, due to some kind of auto accident which\naffected all the service earlier in the day). After a subway<\/span> ride from\nKyoto station, I showed<\/span> up at home at about 2:30pm.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
