Yesterday evening, we had a mini picnic on the grounds of the Kyoto Municipal\nMuseum of Art<\/a>, under the cherry blossoms that overlook the Kyoto Biwako\nCanal. Fumie prepared a snack<\/span> and Anthony brought the BBQ play set he got\nfrom his Uncle Marty and Aunt Marci (which I could<\/span> swear I blogged<\/span> about\nwhen he received it, but I can't<\/span> find it, so must not have....\n[UPDATE:<\/b> I have<\/span> now<\/a>] <\/p>\n\n

The picture above was taken around sundown, with the help of a tripod<\/span>\nand a timer<\/a>,\nbut during the short noontime stroll I took<\/span> when taking pictures of the main gate of the Heian\nShrine<\/a> featured in the previous post, I also witnessed<\/span> many people\nenjoying their own hanami<\/a><\/i> —\ncherry-blossom viewing. The rest of<\/span> this post's pictures are from that\nstroll.<\/p>\n\n

The park bench (tiny, behind some blossoms) in the center of this next\nshot is the one that we were sitting on some hours later when the picture\nabove was taken.<\/p>\n\n\n

These boats run only during cherry-blossom season, and cost about $10\nfor a half<\/span>-hour trip. I've yet to do it, but am in no rush since it would\nonly mean more photos to post, and I have<\/span> enough for now. This was taken\nfrom about the same vantage point as the top picture in the Easter Night Cherry\nBlossoms<\/a> post. <\/p>\n\n\n

The next shot is looking back at the bridge from which the previous shot\nwas taken. The bridge<\/span> is for Jingumichi<\/i>, the road that runs under\nthe Heian Shrine gate. (The runners shown in this post<\/a> are actually on\nthe bridge, though it my not seem like it.)<\/p>\n\n

The building in the upper-right is the National Museum of Modern Art<\/a>, which\ndespite being directly across the street\/canal from my place, I've never\nbeen to except for their cafe.<\/p>\n\n

I'm going to go ahead and put another shot of the bridge, because I\nreally<\/span> like it...<\/p>\n\n

So many bridges. The two pictures<\/span> above were taken from a second<\/span> bridge.\nTurning around to look the other way, and I see<\/span> another hanami<\/i> boat,\nand the Lake Biwa\nCanal Museum of Kyoto<\/a> (which you might remember from the second picture\nin this post the other\nday<\/a>). The Kyoto<\/span> Zoo is beyond the cherry trees on the left-side\nbank.<\/p>\n\n

Crossing the bridge and entering the grounds of the Municipal Museum of\nArt from the rear (the museum mentioned in the first two shots, not the\nNational Museum of Modern Art, which is across the street, separated by the\nhuge main get of the Heian Shrine), I found<\/span> plenty of people enjoying the\nblossoms....<\/p>\n\n

The lady is likely wearing a mask because of pollen allergies. Both the\nallergies and the masks are quite common this time of year. Her view across<\/span>\nthe pond is of the two ladies seen in the next picture, with the Kyoto\nMunicipal Museum of Art as the backdrop...<\/p>\n\n

They're overlooking the canal, and probably watched me take a bunch<\/span> of\nthe pictures above.<\/p>\n\n

When they arrived to where I was standing, the ladies noticed the same\nview that I did<\/span> in the previous post<\/a>, so asked me\nto take their picture. They had these weird camera-type things that seemed\nto use extremely thin strips of plastic covered in a layer<\/span> of\nphotosensitive material, wound about little spools. Very odd.
