We took a meandering drive today to see some blossoms, and then a nice<\/span>\nride up into Kyoto's northern mountains. Some of the areas we visited were\nso beautiful it just hurt<\/i>, because I wanted<\/span> to capture the beauty\nand I knew<\/span> there was no way I could.<\/span> So, instead, I took a<\/span> few pictures,\nand just tried to enjoy it.<\/p>\n\n

We drove along waterways for a long time, up the Kamo river, then the\nTakano River, then across to the Kamo river (the 2nd “Kamo river” being\nwritten differently than the first). The whole<\/span> way was lined with cherry\nblossoms in full bloom, and was just splendid.<\/p>\n\n

Then we found a little out-of-the-way area along a small<\/span> waterway called\nthe Shirakawa Canal (which ostensibly is part of the Shirakawa River, which\nruns by our house, but I don't<\/span> think it's actually connected). This area\nwas just amazing, both for its abundance of cherry trees, and for its lack\nof abundance of people.<\/p>\n\n

All the pictures on this post are from one tiny part of that area, which\nruns for well over a mile<\/span> through mostly quite neighborhoods in\nnorth-eastern Kyoto. (Note to Nils<\/a>: this is pretty close to you; check out the map link\nunder one of the pictures, and pay the area a visit<\/span> with your camera!)<\/p>\n\n

Of course, that “snow” are a hail<\/span> of cherry blossoms. It was sort<\/span> of\nwarm, but Fumie's been feeling a bit<\/span> iffy since getting back from Malaysia,\nso was bundled up.<\/p>\n\n

The sun came out not soon after we arrived, and with it the wind died\ndown. However, because of all the blossoms on the ground, we could see\nlittle mini “dust devils” from time to time, that we'd never have seen\notherwise. Nature is amazing.<\/p>\n\n

Anthony, of course, totally ignored the abundant beauty to concentrate\non his bubble maker. It's a little<\/span> battery-operated fan with a quad<\/span> of\nbubble loops mounted in front. Dip into the<\/span> bubble soap, press the button,\nand volumes of bubbles and fun come out.<\/p>\n\n
