It's not only cherry blossoms that add color to spring in Kyoto.\nKawabata Street, which parallels the Kamo River as it slices north-south\nthrough the eastern part of Kyoto (kawabata<\/i> means “riverbank”), is\nlively with botanical color. There are blossoming trees of some sort or\nanother pretty much its whole length, and also vibrantly green wispy\nweeping-willow type trees, and on top of that, the hedge that separates the\nwalkway from the road becomes fiery red for a short<\/span> time in the spring.<\/p>\n\n

It's really beautiful, but hard to get a nice<\/span> picture of because\nalthough in real life one is drawn to the beauty to the point of totally\nignoring the utility poles, delivery trucks, traffic signals, road signs,\npower wires, and other random urban clutter in the same way one ignores the\nhum of an air conditioner in one's workplace, such things stick out like a\nsore<\/span> thumb in photographs.<\/p>\n\n

By the way, in rummaging through my archives from last year (the same\nplace I found<\/span> the picture above), I found<\/span> a daytime<\/span> shot of the Biwako\nCanal from the same vantage point as the nighttime long-exposure\ncherry-blossom<\/a> shots I posted<\/span> the other day....<\/p>\n\n
