Pretty\nmuch everyone in Japan who owns <span class='nobr'>a camera<\/span> was there with their camera. <span class='nobr'>But despite<\/span> the crowd, it was really nice. <span class='nobr'>The only people<\/span> who didn't have <span class='nobr'>a\ncamera<\/span> were the geisha and maiko who were walking or scurrying about.<\/p>\n\n<p>In order to &#8220;see through&#8221; all the people, <span class='nobr'>I used a<\/span> tripod and relatively\nlong exposures. <span class='nobr'>The one above<\/span> is 42 seconds, at f\/22. <span class='nobr'>The small<\/span> aperture\n(large &#8220;f&#8221; number) means that something has to remain unmoving for <span class='nobr'>a while<\/span>\n(or be really bright) to actually make it into the image, and as such,\npeople milling about would become translucent, or even remain\ninvisible.<\/p>\n\n<p>My biggest worry was that a car might come along and ruin the shot with\nits bright lights, but it all worked out well.
