The <a\nhref=\"http:\/\/www.ntn.com\/hospitality_tech\/players_corner\/games_library\/six.asp\">main\ngame<\/a> last night, played simultaneously by 10 to 20 thousand people in\nbars across North America, covers science, geography, &#8220;shows&#8221;\n(plays, TV, movies), history, sports, and the arts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>Dad is excellent with history, science, and, in particular, geography. <span class='nobr'>I am worthless<\/span> with everything but the occasional science and Japan-related\nquestion. <span class='nobr'>We sat with<\/span> trivia regulars Ted, Bill, and John, who are truly\nawe-inspiring in their depth and breadth of knowledge. They can\neffortlessly deal with questions on 1960s American TV, ancient mythology,\nwho won what kind of literature prize when, and for what, famous (and less\nfamous) painters, anything about Broadway, the most arcane details of\nmiddle-ages British royalty, and most everything else. <span class='nobr'>If such a<\/span> depth of\nknowledge were limited in scope (e.g. as with <span class='nobr'>a film<\/span> buff, etc.) <span class='nobr'>I would<\/span> be\nless impressed, but it covers pretty much everything.<\/p>\n\n<p>The main hour-long game consists of 36 questions covering the six\nsubject areas. By themselves, Ted, Bill, and John would have done just\noutstanding, but since Dad and <span class='nobr'>I were<\/span> there, they (and hence, as <span class='nobr'>a group,<\/span>\n&#8220;we&#8221;) were able to do just <span class='nobr'>a bit<\/span> better. <span class='nobr'>Dad helped<\/span> out on\nquite <span class='nobr'>a number<\/span> of questions, but my highlight was to be able to help out\nthese luminaries with two questions that they would not have otherwise\nknown (<span class='nobr'>I could<\/span> match up six Asian countries with the names of their\ncurrency, and <span class='nobr'>I happened<\/span> to know that the name of the big ferris wheel in\nLondon is called &#8220;the London Eye&#8221;). These two answers (along\nwith the 34 that they knew) allowed us, as <span class='nobr'>a group,<\/span> to be the #1 group in\nthe nation. As individuals, none of us had the best score in the nation,\nbut we had #2, #3, #4, #5, and #6 (among more than 10,000 players).<\/p>\n\n<p>It was fun.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Last night my dad and I went to BW3's in Kent to play NTN Trivia.
