On the drive into the\nmountains<\/a> the other day, we were on a twisty<\/span> mountain road and came\nacross the surreal sight of a bridge<\/span> leading directly into the rocky face\nof a mountain.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n

Taking this bridge would mean a really<\/span> short trip.<\/p>\n\n

Of course, it's a work in progress. A tunnel<\/span> will certainly follow,\nthereby cutting off a long<\/span> and dangerous segment of the current\nroad....<\/p>\n\n

I expected the road to become dangerous, but what followed the Bridge\nto Nowhere was actually fairly pleasant, and not narrow nor at all\ndangerous. A shockingly<\/span> short 1\/3rd<\/sup> mile (500m) later, we came\nacross its counterpart, the Bridge From Nowhere....<\/p>\n\n

I can't fathom why these bridges were built. Even if I had<\/span> free rein to\nspend other people's money in any way I wanted<\/span> (that is, if I were<\/span> a\npolitician<\/span>), I could<\/span> find so many thousands of better things to waste money\non than this.<\/p>\n\n

Take a look at this map (via\nGoogle<\/a>) that shows that the second bridge has been there long enough to\nactually appear on the map, indeed, coming from nowhere.<\/p>\n\n
