{"id":394,"date":"2007-03-11T12:36:31","date_gmt":"2007-03-11T03:36:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/regex.info\/blog\/2007-03-11\/394"},"modified":"2007-03-11T12:36:31","modified_gmt":"2007-03-11T03:36:31","slug":"slighly-odd-weather-in-kyoto-today","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/regex.info\/blog\/2007-03-11\/394","title":{"rendered":"Slighly Odd Weather in Kyoto Today"},"content":{"rendered":"\n\n\n\n<p>A few minutes after putting up the previous post (<a\nhref=\"\/blog\/2007-03-11\/393\">Kyoto City Half Marathon<\/a>)\nand writing how it was turning out to be <span class='nobr'>a beautiful<\/span> day, <span class='nobr'>I was surprised<\/span>\nto see that it was gloomy outside, with big fluffy hunks of snow drifting\ndown.<\/p>\n\n<p>Kyoto generally doesn't get much snow, despite the most-snow-in-60-years\nwinter last year (which <span class='nobr'>I wrote<\/span> about a'plenty at the time: <a\nhref=\"\/blog\/2005-12-21\/115\">one<\/a>, <a\nhref=\"\/blog\/2005-12-22\/116\">two<\/a>, <a\nhref=\"\/blog\/2005-12-24\/118\">three<\/a>, <a\nhref=\"\/blog\/2006-01-07\/129\">four<\/a>, <a\nhref=\"\/blog\/2006-04-09\/176\">five<\/a>). We've had almost no\nsnow this year, except <span class='nobr'>a light<\/span> dusting while we were away on our <a\nhref=\"\/blog\/2006-12-31\/318\">New Year's trip<\/a>, and\nanother later in January.<\/p>\n\n   \n\n<p>It's been so mild this year that <span class='nobr'>I noticed<\/span> some <a\nhref=\"\/blog\/2007-02-14\/383\">plum blossoms starting to show\nup<\/a> already in the middle of February, with some trees becoming\nfully-engulfed <span class='nobr'>a week<\/span> later. So, when the temperature went over 20C (70F)\nthe other day, <span class='nobr'>I thought<\/span> spring had finally arrived, but was surprised to\nsee <span class='nobr'>a few<\/span> flakes of snow the next day (at 10C\/50F, no less).<\/p>\n\n<p>I noticed last year in the <a\nhref=\"\/blog\/2006-03-29\/167\">webserver logs<\/a> for my\nblog, <span class='nobr'>a huge<\/span> increase in people looking for cherry-blossom photos in March. <span class='nobr'>I wanted<\/span> to offer them the fluffy white goodness they sought, but because\nKyoto's season was so late (and so lackluster) last year, <span class='nobr'>I didn't<\/span> have\nmuch to show until April. <span class='nobr'>So this year<\/span>, <span class='nobr'>I plan on<\/span> dusting off some of the\nmany nice images from <a href=\"\/blog\/2006-04-08\/175\">last\nApril<\/a> and post them as <span class='nobr'>I await<\/span> this year's crop.\n\n<\/p><p>\n\n<b>Note to <a\nhref=\"\/blog\/jfriedl-links\/about\/#comment-3575\">Bill\nSouza<\/a><\/b>: with the mild winter we've had, you just might get lucky and\nsee some cherry blossoms in Osaka before you leave on the 29th, but it\ndoesn't seem too likely. However, you should have excellent <a\nhref=\"\/blog\/2006-03-26\/166\">plum-blossom viewing<\/a>\nbefore you go.
