(The official name is &#8220;<b>Adobe&reg; Photoshop&reg;\nLightroom&trade;<\/b>&#8221; but everyone but Adobe will call it simply\n&#8220;<b>Adobe Lightroom<\/b>,&#8221; including me.)<\/p>\n\n<p class='major_announce'><b>Update:<\/b> see my <a href=\"\/blog\/2007-06-27\/502\">What's New in <span class='nobr'>Lightroom 1.1<\/span><\/a> post.<\/p>\n\n<div class='ic'><a href=\"\/i\/Lightroom5.jpg\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/i\/Lightroom5_sm.jpg\" width=\"700\" height=\"511\"\nalt=\"Adobe Lightroom Version 1.0, &amp;#8220;Library Grid View&amp;#8221; (click image for full-resolution screenshot)\"\nclass=\"dark_screenshot\"\nid=\"ism\"\ntitle=\"Adobe Lightroom Version 1.0 Library Module Grid View, with all panes\nshowing\"\/><\/a><br\/><span style='font-size:175%'>Adobe Lightroom <span class='nobr'>Version\n1.0,<\/span> &#8220;Library Grid View&#8221;<\/span><br\/>(click image for\nfull-resolution screenshot)<\/div>\n\n<p>Lightroom allows one to quickly and effectively process large numbers of\ndigital images. <span class='nobr'>I often<\/span> take 500+ pictures at <span class='nobr'>a single<\/span> event, and Lightroom\nlets me quickly go through them, sorting them, hiding\/deleting the bad,\nmake small adjustments (or large adjustments &mdash; I'm still not <span class='nobr'>a good<\/span>\nphotographer) in exposure, white balance, rotation, color, de-spotting,\netc.<\/p>\n\n<p>It has modules for dealing with photos as <span class='nobr'>a library<\/span> (sorting, editing\nmetadata, etc.), &#8220;developing&#8221; the image (making the aforementioned\nadjustments), producing slideshows, web pages, and for printing. <span class='nobr'>For the most<\/span> part, <span class='nobr'>I use only<\/span> the first two.<\/p>\n\n<p>I've mentioned Adobe's Lightroom software <span class='nobr'>a number<\/span> of times in the past\n&mdash; it's been in public beta for <span class='nobr'>a year,<\/span> and I've been using it since\n&#8220;beta 2&#8221; in the summer. <span class='nobr'>The most recent<\/span> public beta is\n&#8220;beta 4.1&#8221;, released in October, but for the last month or so,\nI've been privileged to be part of <span class='nobr'>a small,<\/span> private &#8220;beta 5&#8221; \/\n&#8220;Release Candidate&#8221; test group, where we put Lightroom through\nits paces, report bugs and make product suggestions, testing and retesting\nwith each build they release to us.<\/p>\n\n<p>I use some of the new features in 1.0 to automate each morning's update\nof my <a href=\"\/blog\/2007-01-26\/373\">bento page<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n<p>There's so much to write about Lightroom that <span class='nobr'>I could<\/span> write <span class='nobr'>a book<\/span> about\nit... but <span class='nobr'>I won't<\/span> (although <a\nhref=\"http:\/\/amazon.com\/s\/url=search-alias%3Daps&amp;field-keywords=Adobe+Lightroom&amp;Go.x=0&amp;Go.y=0&amp;Go=Go\">many\nare<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n<p>In this post, I'll just offer <span class='nobr'>a few<\/span> views of the two modules that <span class='nobr'>I use<\/span>\nthe most &mdash; Library and Develop &mdash; to whet your appetite. <\/p>\n\n<p>Note that all the panes around the sides\/top\/bottom can be hidden or\nshown independently.<\/p>\n\n\n<div style='margin-top:50px' class='ic'><a href=\"\/i\/Lightroom4.jpg\"\n><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/i\/Lightroom4_sm.jpg\" width=\"700\" height=\"511\"\nalt=\"Loupe View\"\nclass=\"dark_screenshot\"\nid=\"ismx2\"\ntitle=\"alt\"\/><\/a><br\/><span\nstyle='font-size:175%'>Loupe View<\/span><\/div>\n\n<p>Loupe View is part of the Library Module, along with the Grid View\n(first pic above) and Survey View (pic below). <span class='nobr'>In this screencapture<\/span>, the\nflimstrip at the bottom is showing, as is the metadata pane at right, but\nthe organizational pane (normally at left) is hidden, as is the module\nnavigation pane across the top.
