Anthony sometimes really surprises us in the morning with what he's\ndone before we awake.<\/p>\n\n

Sometimes it involves something bad, like pee-pee on the floor<\/a> or poop under a table<\/span><\/a> or the\nentire contents of a tissue<\/span> box spread out\nover the floor<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n

But more often, it's with something that amazes us because it represents\na huge<\/span> leap in his creativity or in some skill, such as when he built a\nmost<\/span> excellent street\nsweeper<\/a> almost completely from his imagination, or a new<\/span> level of artwork<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n

Today was one of those “huge leap” days. The level<\/span> of what he drew is\nwell behind some of his peers, but it's really advanced compared to what\nhe'd been drawing<\/a>\n(which itself was a big<\/span> step over where he was just a few<\/span> months ago).<\/p>\n\n

The picture below sort of matches one that he and I did<\/span> together the\nother day, with a curving road<\/span> bordered with grass, a\ndotted<\/span> line down the middle (except on the curve, where it's a no<\/span>-passing\nsolid line), and arrows showing the direction of travel. It even includes<\/span>\none oddly-shaped arrow<\/span> that mimics the “curve\nahead” ones on the road here, that look odd from above but look like a\nnatural<\/span> curving arrow when viewed at a low<\/span> angle.<\/p>\n\n

It's wonderful enough that he could even reproduce that much so well,\nbut then he added a fairly<\/span> accurate version of the parking\nlot<\/span> by the preschool, including the tiny door in the back wall that\nleads through a fairly<\/span> dense garden to the sprawling two-section house<\/span> of the lot owner (the first section\nhaving a very<\/span> high step up from garden level to porch level), complete with\nsmoke<\/span> from the chimneys.\n\n<\/p>

\n\nI should point out that Anthony had been behind the little door only once,\nfor a short<\/span> time, three months ago. I have no<\/span> idea how he can remember the\ndetails as he does.<\/p>\n\n

In the parking lot is our yellow Toyota\nSienta<\/span> (which is the subject of my first blog post<\/a>), as well\nas a track<\/span> showing the path that Mommy took\nwhen they drove, with crosses and triangles marking the places that Anthony\nwas fussy.<\/p>\n\n

The street has one traffic light<\/span>, on which he added a\ncomponent<\/span> of his own design: the blue light goes on when the road is\nrestricted to emergency vehicles. (Frankly, that would make a lot<\/span> of sense\nin this earthquake-prone country!)<\/p>\n\n

The one thing that's a bit of a mystery<\/span> are the fruit stickers in the\noutside lane. The best description<\/span> I could<\/span> get is that they “show\nwhere to drive.”<\/p>\n\n\n
