{"id":328,"date":"2007-01-10T11:53:12","date_gmt":"2007-01-10T02:53:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/regex.info\/blog\/2007-01-10\/328"},"modified":"2007-06-30T19:52:01","modified_gmt":"2007-06-30T10:52:01","slug":"missing-you-my-sweet-on-our-anniversary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/regex.info\/blog\/2007-01-10\/328","title":{"rendered":"Missing You, My Sweet, on Our Anniversary"},"content":{"rendered":"\n\n<p style='font-size:110%; text-align:center'><b>Or &#8220;The Sad Tale of my Nikon D200 and <span class='nobr'>Nikkor 70<\/span>-200&#8221;<\/b><\/p>\n<p>\n\nIt is with a mix of fondness and sadness that <span class='nobr'>I greet<\/span> today's one-year\nanniversary of having gotten my <a\nhref=\"\/blog\/2006-01-10\/130\">Nikon D200<\/a>. <span class='nobr'>The sadness<\/span> is\nbecause it and all my lenses are in the shop again. <b>)-:<\/b>\n\n<\/p>\n\n<p>The problems started when I got my new\n\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2006-11-06\/275\"><span class='nobr'>Nikkor 70<\/span>-200<\/a> zoom and found that it had <a href=\"\/blog\/2006-11-08\/276\">focus issues<\/a>.\n\nSo, I <a href=\"\/blog\/2006-12-11\/308\">brought it<\/a> and\nall my kit to the Nikon Service Center in Osaka. (&#8220;kit&#8221; is\ngeeky-photographer speak for &#8220;photography equipment&#8221; &mdash;\ndoesn't it make me sound like such <span class='nobr'>a pro<\/span>? :-)). They accepted the lens and\nthe body for repair, sending it back to me <span class='nobr'>a week<\/span> later.\n\n<\/p><p>\n\nUnfortunately, <span class='nobr'>I got it<\/span> back in worse shape than when <span class='nobr'>I brought<\/span> it in.\nBefore, <span class='nobr'>I believe<\/span> that the body and my other lenses were properly\ncalibrated, and only the 70-200 was in need of adjustment, but at the\nservice center, they calibrated the body to match the wrongly-calibrated\nlens, so now those two worked together better (but still not great), but in\ndoing this my other properly-calibrated lenses no longer worked. Sigh. At\nleast, that's what seems to be the case.\n\n<\/p>\n\n<p>\n\nIt really astounds me that a company like Nikon can make <span class='nobr'>a mistake<\/span> like\nthis (so much so that <span class='nobr'>I hold<\/span> out plenty of space that <span class='nobr'>I might<\/span> be wrong in\nmy assessment of the situation... time will tell.) Still, my first clue\nthat all was not right in Nikon land was at the service center when <span class='nobr'>I\nexplained<\/span> the situation to the lady at the reception counter. She said \"you\ncan calibrate the body for one lens, but you can't expect the body to be\nperfect will all lenses.\" <span class='nobr'>I had<\/span> in front of me a $2,000 semi-pro body, two\n$2,300 pro-level lenses, and an $800 lens, and at those prices, <b><span class='nobr'>I damn<\/span>\nwell expected them to work perfectly<\/b>.\n\n<\/p><p>\n\nAnyway, <span class='nobr'>I trekked<\/span> back to Osaka last week, made sure to talk to <span class='nobr'>a different<\/span>\nperson at reception, and had them take everything and said clearly that <span class='nobr'>I\nwanted<\/span> them to all work properly, and suggested that the problem was with\nthe 70-200. They apologized profusely, and gave me <span class='nobr'>a target<\/span> date of Jan 22\nto have them back to me. They beat the target date last time by <span class='nobr'>a week,<\/span> so\nif that holds again, <span class='nobr'>I should<\/span> get them back later this week....\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p> It is with a mix of fondness and sadness that I greet today's one-year anniversary of having gotten my Nikon D200.
