One reason that I don't blog so much these days is that when I do<\/span> go out with the camera, the places I visit<\/span> are so\noverwhelmingly beautiful that I get<\/span> choice paralysis in deciding what to work on, and what to write about. I start<\/span> to work on one\nset of photos, only to get drawn into a hundred<\/span> side channels for things I want<\/span> to share, and in the end I share<\/span> nothing because\nnothing finds its way all the way to a blog<\/span> post.<\/p>\n\n

So with the intent to fight agsinst that, I set out<\/span> this morning to quickly scan the 714 photos I took<\/span> during a recent<\/span> outing\nto some temples in Shiga Prefecture (an hour's drive from Kyoto), and quickly choose a few<\/span> photos and blog them. What I had<\/span> hoped\nwould take 30 minutes has, to this point, taken two hours.<\/p>\n\n

Part of the slowness comes from my desire to tie in today's photos with ones from the past. This helps make my blog a diary<\/span> for my own consumption later in life, I guess,<\/span> when my memory starts to.... what was I talking<\/span> about? \ud83d\ude42 <\/p>\n\n

For example, the lead photo above was taken very near where the lead photo of this post<\/a> was taken,\na couple<\/span> of years prior during that year's same “<\/span>Shiga temples tour”<\/span>. But even closer<\/span> is this photo<\/a>,\ntake during “<\/span>Cycling to Nagoya for Coffee<\/a>”<\/span>, which was, at 260km, my longest ride to date.<\/p>\n\n

Our first stop of the day, the Eigenji Temple, was not yet at its peak of color, but it was still lovely<\/i>, and I hope<\/span> to post much more from the day.\nWhen here two years ago, it had indeed been at peak color, as seen in\n“<\/span>Anatomy of a Selfie<\/span><\/a>”<\/span>\nand a\nfew<\/a>\nothers<\/a>. Sigh, that day was so photogenic, there should be 20 more posts just from it.\nMaybe someday.<\/p>\n\n

We then made our way to the jaw-dropping awe-inspiring emotionally-powerful Kongorinji Temple (\u91d1\u525b\u8f2a\u5bfa),<\/span> as introduced a long<\/span> time ago\nin “<\/span>Deep Sorrow at the Kongourinji Temple\u2019s Path of Jizou<\/a>”<\/span>, but perhaps\nbetter photographed half a dozen<\/span> years\nago in “<\/span>Uncountable Sorrows: Path of Statues Dedicated to Children who Passed Before Their\nParents<\/a>”<\/span>, or any of the many other posts that the “<\/span>nearby photos”<\/span> link under each picture brings you to.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n

I've felt remarkably uninspired to photograph or write this year, but this was an inspiring trip, so perhaps some of its\neffects will linger and I'll write more soon. It's five hours after I started writing this post at home, and now I'm finishing it\nin the Osaka airport as I start a trip to Ohio to visit my folks.<\/p>\n\n
