I took a short ride<\/a> out to check out the status of Ochiba Shrine. It's still<\/span> a few<\/span> days... maybe three, maybe five... from peak. It seems<\/span> early this year. When I first<\/span> posted about it<\/a> five years ago,\nit was from a Dec<\/span> 2 visit.<\/p>\n\n

Yet, the next year I visited on Nov 14<\/a>, and it was about the same as it\nwas today (Nov 18). Maybe it takes time, because the same year I posted<\/span> one of my\nfirst wigglegrams<\/a> from the shrine, with full-carpet photos taken on Nov 25.<\/p>\n\n

Even more surprising to me is that last year, photos from Nov 10<\/a>\n(on an article posted Nov 26; don't be fooled by the article date) show a pretty<\/span> full carpet. So I don<\/span>'t really know what's\n“<\/span>normal”<\/span> for this shrine. They do have a special<\/span> evening light-up event tomorrow (Nov 19), so perhaps that indicates\nthe traditional peak?<\/p>\n\n

Anyway, I'll certainly have to check in again next week.<\/p>\n\n

I returned through the Takao area of north-west Kyoto, which hosts two famous temples\n(the Kosanji Temple \/ \u9ad8\u5c71\u5bfa,<\/span> and the Jingoji Temple \/ \u795e\u8b77\u5bfa),<\/span> visited in prior\nposts such as this<\/a>,\nthis<\/a> and this<\/a>,\namong others.<\/p>\n\n

It was too late to visit them on this trip, and I probably<\/span> wouldn't with th bike anyway (I wouldn't<\/span> feel comfortable\nleaving the bicycle as I ventured<\/span> in), but I did<\/span> snap a photo<\/span> from the road:<\/p>\n\n

It turns out that it's of a temple that I didn't<\/span> realize was separate from the others, called the Saimyoji Temple.\nI'll have to check it out some day.<\/p>\n
