Yesterday's cycling was a bit different from what I normally<\/span> do of late. I was honored<\/span> to be invited on\nVincent Flanagan's annual “<\/span>Kyoto Rooftop”<\/span> birthday ride, on an often-gravel forestry road that follows\nthe undulating ridgeline across 65km of mountains north of Kyoto. (You might remember\nVincent from my bike fitting at Pedalforth<\/a>.)<\/p>\n\n

First we ride about 60km (37mi) northwest of Kyoto to get to the far end of the forestry road.\nThen snake around on the ridgeline road for about 65km (40mi) east. Then return home over Hanase Pass.<\/p>\n\n

I added a little extra at the end, the easier half of a Kyoto<\/span> Heart Loop<\/a>,\nand ended up for the day riding 163km with 3,880m of climb<\/a>\n(101mi with 12,700' of climb):<\/p>\n\n
