In “<\/span>Snowy Frigid Ohio\nMorning<\/a>”<\/span> a few<\/span> days ago, I posted<\/span> a photo<\/a><\/span> of the back of the house that I grew<\/span> up in and that my folks have lived in for 49½ years. I captioned<\/span>\nit “<\/span>Warm”<\/span>, but commented that I had<\/span> hoped\nfor more orange spill from the incandescent lighting inside.<\/p>\n\n

I hadn't gotten what I wanted because I was<\/span> too late in the morning, where ambient light from the pre-dawn sky was already\nbright enough to overpower the house lights.<\/p>\n\n

So I tried again this morning. We had quite a bit<\/span> of snow last night, and\nI happened<\/span> to get up early enough (and as a bonus<\/span> it was much warmer than\nthe previous time).\nThe result<\/span> above is more what\nI was<\/span> looking for.<\/p>\n\n

The earlier time also benefited the result with a deeper<\/span> blue light filtering in through the clouds, providing more contrast to\nthe orange of the incandescent lights.<\/p>\n\n

This same technique applies to photographing buildings or Christmas lights (or cherry-blossom lightups<\/a> or campfires<\/a> or airplanes<\/a>,\netc.) in the morning or evening... photos taken at dawn or dusk can be much more compelling than those taken when the sky is\ncompletely dark or bright.<\/p>\n\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
