I stopped by NORU Kyoto<\/a> today, which reopened after a summer<\/span> hiatus. I'd mentioned<\/span> them last May in “<\/span>Discovering Kyoto\u2019s Wonderful Toji-in Temple on a Tour<\/span> with NORU<\/a>”<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n

I picked up a nice\nquick-dry T-shirt from Morv\u00e9lo<\/a>, a British<\/span> cycling brand.<\/p>\n\n\n

I think that NORU is the only place to get them in Japan, though I suppose<\/span>\nyou could get them directly\nfrom the company<\/a> if you didn't mind paying more plus shipping.<\/p>\n\n

It's much more expensive than the 500-yen Uniqlo T's<\/a> that I\nwrote<\/span> about three years ago, but also much more comfortable and stylish. The price<\/span> is on par with comparable T's from the Under Armour brand that I\nlike<\/span> so much<\/a> (and whose stock I own<\/span>), but I've got to admit that I like<\/span>\nthe Morv\u00e9lo style better.<\/p>\n\n

I learned today that “<\/span>v\u00e9lo”<\/span> means “<\/span>bicycle”<\/span> in French.<\/p>\n\n

I almost bought this\nretro-looking jersey<\/a>, which to me looks like a movie<\/span> poster from the\n1930s, but held off until I get<\/span> a better<\/span> feel for what size will be\nappropriate when I start<\/span> riding a real<\/span> road bike.<\/p>\n\n

I also picked up a Chapeau!\nbase-layer T-shirt<\/a> whose fabric felt so good when I came<\/span> across it on\nthe rack that I just<\/span> had to have it. I think<\/span> I'll wear it around town as\nopposed to waiting for it to be cool enough to wear it while cycling.<\/p>\n\n

Chapeau!<\/a> is another British cycling\nbrand that I think<\/span> is exclusive in Japan to NORU. “<\/span>Chapeau”<\/span> is of course\nFrench for “<\/span>hat”<\/span>, but it's also the cycling term for “<\/span>kudos”<\/span>, a verbal<\/span> “<\/span>hat\ntip”<\/span> recognition of something well done.<\/p>\n\n\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
