Today we stopped by to play ping pong again with Vernon Weingart, now 91 years 1 day old,\nto make good on my promised rematch from his beating me the other day<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n

After knocking the ball around for a while<\/span> with Anthony and me, Vernon and I\nplayed<\/span> our first best-of-three match, and he easily beat me in two\ngames. He was much<\/span> stronger than the last time.<\/p>\n\n

We all knocked the ball around again for a while,<\/span> and we then played another match. This time\nI won<\/span> the first game after having gone to deuce a dozen<\/span> times.... he was toying with me, but I finally<\/span>\ngot lucky (or he finally got tired of toying with me), and I won<\/span> the game. Woo-hoo!<\/p>\n\n

The second game was much the same, and I won<\/span> after a long<\/span> time at deuce. I think<\/span> he let me, but it still\nfelt nice. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n\n

As a championship-level player for more than 40 years, he's been challenged much more before....\nhe's had multiple world champions in his basement at the same time (“<\/span>I didn't<\/span> fare very well that day<\/i>”<\/span>). And of course<\/span> with age (he's 91<\/i> years old), the ultra-fast younger generation crush him. He recently<\/span> played against a girl<\/span> 1\/10th is age who trounced him. “<\/span>I couldn't<\/span> do anything against her.<\/i>”<\/span>\nI'm looking forward to see how she plays in the year 2097 when she's his current age.<\/p>\n\n

Anthony also played a lot, and was much<\/i> better than yesterday. Just the little bit of play with Vernon last time\nreally made his game progress, and he was suddenly spinning and smashing with much better accuracy. Another few days\nof this and he'll be beating me!<\/p>\n\n

We're planning to play again tomorrow.<\/p>\n\n

UPDATE:<\/b> We did play again, and Vernon crushed me 4-1. In a typical\ngame he'd get ahead 10-4 (in games to 11) then let me get close before\nputting in the final nail.<\/p>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
