After including the above photo on “<\/span>Thoughts on the\nVenus\/Laowa 60mm f\/2.8 Super-Macro Lens<\/a>”<\/span> in February, it was pointed\nout to me that the coin includes some visible security features that I'd\nnever noticed.<\/p>\n\n

At the bottom of the zero in the middle, the lower-most horizontal line is flanked\non each side by a letter<\/span> “<\/span>P”<\/span>...<\/p>\n\n

This shot was taken with an 8:1 macro setup<\/a>\nthat falls into the “<\/span>stupid tricks”<\/span> category, using extension tubes and a teleconverter.<\/span> The\naccumulated<\/span> chromatic aberration turns the cold monochromatic metal\ninto a squishy<\/span> field of splotchy color. But it was<\/span> fun to try.<\/p>\n\n

The other digits have two letters each as well: the other zero has “<\/span>O”<\/span> and “<\/span>N”<\/span>, and the five has “<\/span>N”<\/span> and “<\/span>I”<\/span>...<\/p>\n\n

<\/a>\nN · I · P · P · O · N<\/span>\n\n\n\n\n<\/div>\n\n

Together they spell “<\/span>Nippon”<\/span>, which is one way to write “<\/span>Japan”<\/span> in roman letters.<\/p>\n\n

Then you have the hatchmarks that fill the two zeros. Depending on the angle of view and the\nangle of light, you might get just hatchmarks filling everything....<\/p>\n\n

... or you might get proper zeros with a center.<\/span>..<\/p>\n\n

The rear of the coin also has some of these kind of things, but they're\nmuch more difficult to see there.<\/p>\n\n
