Otowa <span class='nobr'>(\u97f3\u7fbd\u5c71)<\/span> in Kyoto, my fingers are lightly resting on\nthe bike frame. When touching the bike that way as <span class='nobr'>I was<\/span> posing for the\nshot, my fingers felt <span class='nobr'>a kind<\/span> of buzzing vibration\nsensation, which <span class='nobr'>I thought<\/span> was odd. <span\nclass='nobr'>The wind was<\/span> strong, but <span class='nobr'>I\ndidn't<\/span> think the gusting would hit the bike's resonate frequency or\nanything.<\/p>\n\n<p>Later, when moving the bike around <span class='nobr'>I got<\/span> some pretty nasty shocks, which\nalso seemed odd because <span class='nobr'>I was<\/span> <span class='nobr'>a long<\/span> way from the nearest electric outlet. <span class='nobr'>I eventually<\/span> realized that the smaller the contact between my skin and\nmetal from the bike, the larger the pain. <span class='nobr'>But unlike<\/span> <span class='nobr'>a shock<\/span> from, say,\nstatic electricity, it was ongoing. <span class='nobr'>I quickly<\/span> learned to not touch the metal parts of the bike.<\/p>\n\n<p>The reason is apparent in once sense if you see the view in another direction. This is <span class='nobr'>a skill<\/span> that Japan\nseems to excel at.<\/p>\n\n<p>Anyway, the mere presence of the lines near the bike was enough to give\nit <span class='nobr'>a shocking<\/span> amount of, well, shock. <span class='nobr'>I suppose<\/span> the flowing electricity\ncreates <span class='nobr'>a magnetic<\/span> field, which in turn turns partially back to electricity\nin the presence of metal like the bike frame? <span class='nobr'>I wonder<\/span> whether my iPhone was\ngetting charged at the same time, as well as my credit cards getting wiped?<\/p>\n\n<p>I'm not kidding when I say that shocks were painful. <span class='nobr'>I wonder<\/span> what would\nhappen to someone with metal implanted in their body (bone screws,\npacemaker, dental filling, etc.).<\/p>\n\n<p>Apparently nothing, though. A web search reveals articles about the\nphenomenon (such as <a\nhref='http:\/\/motls.blogspot.jp\/2012\/05\/electric-shocks-under-high-voltage.html'>this<\/a>\nand <a\nhref='http:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-2655190\/Cyclist-told-grab-metal-bike-time-rides-overhead-power-line-gives-ELECTRIC-SHOCK.html'>this<\/a>),\nand apparently it's just an inconvenience.
