{"id":2564,"date":"2015-04-30T07:23:26","date_gmt":"2015-04-29T22:23:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/regex.info\/blog\/2015-04-30\/2564"},"modified":"2015-04-30T07:23:22","modified_gmt":"2015-04-29T22:23:22","slug":"automatic-face-tagging-now-supported-in-my-upload-to-facebook-plugin-for-lightroom","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/regex.info\/blog\/2015-04-30\/2564","title":{"rendered":"Automatic Face Tagging Now Supported in my Upload-to-Facebook Plugin for Lightroom"},"content":{"rendered":"\n\n<p>I've just released a new version of my <a\nhref='\/blog\/lightroom-goodies\/facebook'>Upload-to-Facebook\nplugin for Adobe Lightroom<\/a> that can automatically tag people in photos\nyou upload to Facebook.<\/p>\n\n<p>It requires Lightroom CC\/6, which was <a\nhref='\/blog\/2015-04-22\/2560'>released last week<\/a>, and\nalso the latest version of <a\nhref='\/blog\/lightroom-goodies\/people-support'>my People\nSupport plugin<\/a>, which now allows you to associate <span class='nobr'>a Facebook<\/span> account\nwith people in your Lightroom catalog.<\/p>\n\n<p>(<span style='color:red'>Update July 2015<\/span> &mdash; changes at Facebook made this feature not work for <span class='nobr'>a\nwhile,<\/span> but it's working again as of version 20150704.11 of the People Support plugin.)<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Here's an example of how it works....<\/p>\n\n<p>First, using Lightroom CC\/6's facial recognition features, ensure that all faces that you want to tag\nare noted within the People view of the Library module.<\/p>\n\n<div class='ic'><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/i\/lr\/face-tagging-example.png\" width=\"690\" height=\"380\"\nid=\"iface_tagging_example\"\/>\n<br\/><span class='caption'>People View<\/span>\n<br\/>in Lightroom's Library module, with photos from <a href='\/blog\/2015-04-26\/2562'>this outing<\/a>\n<\/div>\n\n<p>If Lightroom does not automatically detect everything you want, you can manually add the faces\nwith the <span class='QO'>&#8220;<\/span>Draw Face Region<span class='QC'>&#8221;<\/span> tool, available in Loupe (single-image mode) in Library, as illustrated here:<\/p>\n\n<div class='tight ic'><a href=\"\/i\/lr\/face-tagging-draw-face-region.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/i\/lr\/face-tagging-draw-face-region_sm.jpg\" width=\"690\" height=\"408\"\nid=\"iface_tagging_draw_face_region\"\/><\/a><\/div>\n\n<p>In the screenshot above, I'm in the process of drawing <span class='nobr'>a rectangle<\/span> around the back of the nearest cyclist's head,\nwhich of course wasn't automatically recognized as a <span class='QO'>&#8220;<\/span>face<span class='QC'>&#8221;<\/span> by Lightroom. Nevertheless, <span class='nobr'>I want the<\/span> cyclist to be recognized\nas <span class='nobr'>a Person<\/span> in my catalog, and to be tagged with his name at Facebook.<\/p>\n\n<p>The <span class='QO'>&#8220;<\/span>Draw Face Region<span class='QC'>&#8221;<\/span> tool is available only in Library's Loupe mode\n(the keyboard shortcut to bring up Loupe mode is <span class='QO'>&#8220;<\/span>E<span class='QC'>&#8221;<\/span>). <span class='nobr'>The tool is<\/span> enabled via the\nbust-in-a-rectangle icon on the toolbar, highlighted with the orange circle\nnear the bottom of the screenshot above.<\/p>\n\n<p>If you don't see the toolbar in Lightroom, you can bring it up with the <span class='QO'>&#8220;<\/span>T<span class='QC'>&#8221;<\/span> keyboard shortcut. (<span class='QO'>&#8220;<\/span>T<span class='QC'>&#8221;<\/span> again toggles it away.)<\/p>\n\n<p>If you see the toolbar but don't see the face-region tool icon, either your window is not wide enough to show the icon, or you've\nnot enabled it for your toolbar. <span class='nobr'>In either<\/span> case, you can adjust things to your liking by using the little down-triangle icon at the\nfar right, highlighted with <span class='nobr'>a purple<\/span> circle in the screenshot. There you can pick and choose what to show in the toolbar.<\/p>\n\n<p>When you enable this tool, face regions that have already been\nrecognized are shown, and you can drag out <span class='nobr'>a new<\/span> region with the mouse, as\nI'm doing in the screenshot above. There, <span class='nobr'>I'm about<\/span> ready to fill in the name\nof the foreground cyclist; earlier, <span class='nobr'>I'd drawn<\/span> and named the background cyclists.<\/p>\n\n<p>Once I've done that for all the photos that <span class='nobr'>I intend<\/span> to upload to Facebook, <span class='nobr'>I want to<\/span> make sure that I've associated\n<span class='nobr'>a Facebook<\/span> account with each person that <span class='nobr'>I intend<\/span> to tag at Facebook. <span class='nobr'>I do this<\/span> via my People Support's <span class='QO'>&#8220;<\/span>Manage Keyword People<span class='QC'>&#8221;<\/span> dialog,\nwhich <span class='nobr'>I invoke<\/span> via:<\/p>\n\n<div>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<span class='QO'>&#8220;<\/span>File &gt; Plugin Extras &gt; Open People-Support Dialog<span class='QC'>&#8221;<\/span><\/div>\n\n\n<p>(Actually, I use it enough that I've assigned <span class='nobr'>a keyboard<\/span> shortcut to it, in my case <span class='QO'>&#8220;<\/span>Control-Option-Command P<span class='QC'>&#8221;<\/span>.)<\/p>\n\n<p>The dialog brings up the hundreds of People keywords that my catalog has\naccumulated so far, which is overwhelming. <span class='nobr'>I immediately<\/span> cut this down to\njust the people found in the currently-selected photos by entering\n<span class='QO'>&#8220;<\/span><b>!<\/b><span class='QC'>&#8221;<\/span> in the <span class='QO'>&#8220;<\/span>Filter<span class='QC'>&#8221;<\/span> box, as illustrated here:<\/p>\n\n<div class='tight ic'><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/i\/lr\/face-tagging-people-list-example.png\" width=\"550\" height=\"241\"\nid=\"iface_tagging_people_list_example\"\/><\/div>\n\n<p>The <span class='QO'>&#8220;<\/span><b>!<\/b><span class='QC'>&#8221;<\/span> is one of the <a\nhref='\/blog\/lightroom-goodies\/people-support#filtering'>special\nsearch terms<\/a> that the dialog supports, omitting anyone not tagged in\nthe currently-selected photos.
