I've just released a new version of my Upload-to-Facebook\nplugin for Adobe Lightroom<\/a> that can automatically tag people in photos\nyou upload to Facebook.<\/p>\n\n

It requires Lightroom CC\/6, which was released last week<\/a>, and\nalso the latest version of my People\nSupport plugin<\/a>, which now allows you to associate a Facebook<\/span> account\nwith people in your Lightroom catalog.<\/p>\n\n

(Update July 2015<\/span> — changes at Facebook made this feature not work for a\nwhile,<\/span> but it's working again as of version 20150704.11 of the People Support plugin.)<\/p>\n\n\n

Here's an example of how it works....<\/p>\n\n

First, using Lightroom CC\/6's facial recognition features, ensure that all faces that you want to tag\nare noted within the People view of the Library module.<\/p>\n\n

If Lightroom does not automatically detect everything you want, you can manually add the faces\nwith the “<\/span>Draw Face Region”<\/span> tool, available in Loupe (single-image mode) in Library, as illustrated here:<\/p>\n\n

In the screenshot above, I'm in the process of drawing a rectangle<\/span> around the back of the nearest cyclist's head,\nwhich of course wasn't automatically recognized as a “<\/span>face”<\/span> by Lightroom. Nevertheless, I want the<\/span> cyclist to be recognized\nas a Person<\/span> in my catalog, and to be tagged with his name at Facebook.<\/p>\n\n

The “<\/span>Draw Face Region”<\/span> tool is available only in Library's Loupe mode\n(the keyboard shortcut to bring up Loupe mode is “<\/span>E”<\/span>). The tool is<\/span> enabled via the\nbust-in-a-rectangle icon on the toolbar, highlighted with the orange circle\nnear the bottom of the screenshot above.<\/p>\n\n

If you don't see the toolbar in Lightroom, you can bring it up with the “<\/span>T”<\/span> keyboard shortcut. (“<\/span>T”<\/span> again toggles it away.)<\/p>\n\n

If you see the toolbar but don't see the face-region tool icon, either your window is not wide enough to show the icon, or you've\nnot enabled it for your toolbar. In either<\/span> case, you can adjust things to your liking by using the little down-triangle icon at the\nfar right, highlighted with a purple<\/span> circle in the screenshot. There you can pick and choose what to show in the toolbar.<\/p>\n\n

When you enable this tool, face regions that have already been\nrecognized are shown, and you can drag out a new<\/span> region with the mouse, as\nI'm doing in the screenshot above. There, I'm about<\/span> ready to fill in the name\nof the foreground cyclist; earlier, I'd drawn<\/span> and named the background cyclists.<\/p>\n\n

Once I've done that for all the photos that I intend<\/span> to upload to Facebook, I want to<\/span> make sure that I've associated\na Facebook<\/span> account with each person that I intend<\/span> to tag at Facebook. I do this<\/span> via my People Support's “<\/span>Manage Keyword People”<\/span> dialog,\nwhich I invoke<\/span> via:<\/p>\n\n

      “<\/span>File > Plugin Extras > Open People-Support Dialog”<\/span><\/div>\n\n\n

(Actually, I use it enough that I've assigned a keyboard<\/span> shortcut to it, in my case “<\/span>Control-Option-Command P”<\/span>.)<\/p>\n\n

The dialog brings up the hundreds of People keywords that my catalog has\naccumulated so far, which is overwhelming. I immediately<\/span> cut this down to\njust the people found in the currently-selected photos by entering\n“<\/span>!<\/b>”<\/span> in the “<\/span>Filter”<\/span> box, as illustrated here:<\/p>\n\n

The “<\/span>!<\/b>”<\/span> is one of the special\nsearch terms<\/a> that the dialog supports, omitting anyone not tagged in\nthe currently-selected photos. (Before invoking the dialog, I'd selected<\/span> all photos I intend<\/span> to upload.)<\/p>\n\n

I want to make sure that each name has a small<\/span> Facebook icon next to\nit, meaning that I've associated Facebook accounts with all of them. In the example<\/span> above,\nI've not yet associated Gorm with his Facebook account, so I click<\/span> on his name to do that now:<\/p>\n\n

(Note: as of People Support plugin version 20150517.387, the button label is “<\/span>Link Person To Facebook Account”<\/span>.)<\/p>\n\n

I click on the highlighted button and paste in the URL for his Facebook profile page,\nand now I've got accounts associated with all the people in my next upload.<\/p>\n\n

Finally, in the dialog for my Facebook export or publish, I make sure<\/span> that I do<\/span> not<\/i> strip people information. The option<\/span> to so do is in Lightroom's standard “<\/span>Metadata”<\/span> section of the Publish or Export Dialog:<\/p>\n\n

I make sure that “<\/span>Remove Person Info”<\/span> is not enabled, and proceed with\nthe upload to Facebook. The result<\/span> is an\nalbum filled with photos with my friends already tagged<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
