Through the cycle group that I mentioned<\/span> last week<\/a>, I\nmet<\/span> photographer\/triathlete Kumiko Mini, who as it\nhappened was expecting photographer friends from San Francisco to join her\nfor a week<\/span> of photography fun in Kyoto. I got to<\/span> tag along on a trip<\/span> into\nthe mountains where they planned to do a little<\/span> photoshoot at a temple<\/span> far\naway from the crowds of the city.<\/p>\n\n

There was no forecast for snow, but as we got into the mountains the\nflakes started coming and got thicker by the minute. The\nmountains<\/span> turned splendid with a puffy,<\/span> frosty blanket.<\/p>\n\n

By the time we stopped for a picture, I'd gotten<\/span> to know Eric and Gigi<\/a> for an hour, by which\ntime they'd cemented themselves as fun to be around and fun to talk\nphotography...<\/p>\n\n

Three different brands, but somehow we remained friends. I just lament<\/span> that I couldn't<\/span> borrow lenses(!)<\/p>\n\n

The snow is the heavy, sticky kind, but since Eric and Gigi had only the\none camera between them, Eric was available for other tasks while Gigi\nshot...<\/p>\n\n

We eventually moved on to the temple while the snow increased.<\/p>\n\n

I'd been here once before, during cherry-blossom season two years ago,\nas seen in “<\/span>On\nThe Way Into Kyoto\u2019s Northern-Mountain Joshoko-ji Temple<\/a>”<\/span>. This time it\nwas a bit<\/span> different.<\/p>\n\n

Kumiko wore a kimono-inspired dress so that she could be a model,<\/span> and with the snow falling and the place to ourselves,\nit seemed an opportunity to take advantage of.<\/p>\n\n

My confidence driving in the snow plummeted with this\nabandon-the-car-in-the-snow event<\/a> some years back, at least if I don't<\/span>\nhave snow tires, which I didn't<\/span> now. So, I was getting<\/span> a bit<\/span>\nworried about the hour's twisty-mountain-drive ride home. But we'd come all this way, so we may as well\ntake a peek<\/span> at what's at the top of the steps...<\/p>\n\n
