(<span\nclass='nobr'>I know<\/span> two people who wanted to visit Kyoto but\ncouldn't get <span class='nobr'>a hotel<\/span>; one stayed 30km away in\nOsaka, and the other at our house.) The streets across the city were\nparking lots and the crowds were oppressive.<\/p>\n\n<p>But not for me and some friends, who visited the Shodensanso Villa (<a\nhref='http:\/\/www.shoudensansou.jp\/'><span class='nobr'>\u677e\u6bbf\u5c71\u8358\u8336\u9053\u4f1a\n<\/span><\/a>) south-east of Kyoto just over the border into Uji City. <span class='nobr'>It's not\nnormally<\/span> open to the public, but twice <span class='nobr'>a\nyear<\/span> they allow <span class='nobr'>a limited<\/span> number of folks\nto visit, and <a href='http:\/\/damien.douxchamps.net'>Damien<\/a> (seen at\nthe end of the wigglegram above) hooked us up with reservations.<\/p>\n\n<p>At most a scant 100 people total could visit over the course of the five-hour opening, but <span class='nobr'>I didn't<\/span> notice anywhere near that many folks.<\/p>\n\n<div class='ic' itemscope itemtype='http:\/\/schema.org\/Photograph'><a name=\"062847\" href='\/i\/JF4_062847.jpg' itemprop='image'\n><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/i\/JF4_062847_sm.jpg\" width=\"690\" height=\"495\"\nalt=\"Oppressive Crowd this guy stood in my way for 10, possibly 15 seconds!
