The other temple we visited on Tuesday's outing after the spectacular Yoshiminedera\n(seen here<\/a> and here<\/a>)\nis one known as the “<\/span>Flower Temple”<\/span> (hanadera<\/i> — \u82b1\u5bfa),<\/span> though its official name is\nthe Shojiji Temple (\u52dd\u6301\u5bfa).<\/span><\/p>\n\n

In any case, the thing seen above was sitting on the veranda of the main temple building. On the front<\/span> in faded big characters\nis \u300c\u5927\u539f\u91ce\u300d(<\/span>Oharano), the name of the area.<\/p>\n\n

On the side is a date: July 1889.<\/p>\n\n

What is this 125-year-old thing?<\/p>\n\n
