Still revisiting autumns past while we wait for the fall-foliage season to start here in Kyoto,\nhere are some genial little men at the Sekisanzen-in Temple in north-east Kyoto.<\/p>\n\n

I'm not sure what they're for, but I suspect<\/span> they represent votive donations, such\nas these statuettes at the Sanzen-in Temple<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n

I stopped by with Damien prior to my first visit to Kyoto\u2019s\nShugakuin Imperial Villa<\/a> two years ago, because we had a few<\/span> extra minutes and it's nearby.<\/p>\n\n

The affable men were in front of a little<\/span> sub building on the temple grounds...<\/p>\n\n

They had a nice stone lantern in the garden, but I couldn't<\/span> do much with it:<\/p>\n\n

It reminds me of the one at the Enkouji Temple, which I think<\/span> has come across nicely on my blog\nhere<\/a>,\nhere<\/a>,\nhere<\/a>, and\nhere<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n

But I'm always a sucker for moss and colorful leaves...<\/p>\n\n\n

Back at the cheerful little men, I noticed<\/span> some stickers placed around the frame:<\/p>\n\n

My initial thought was that they looked like geisha name stickers,\nlike these<\/a>, but that makes no sense\nat a temple<\/span> like this, and then I recalled<\/span> having seen name stickers of pilgrims\nat a temple<\/span> before, out in the middle of nowhere, here<\/a>.\nSo yeah, they're probably names of pilgrims.<\/p>\n\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
