Thankfully, it's easy\nenough to fix for most folks, and this post tells you how.<\/p>\n\n<p><a href='http:\/\/blog.cryptographyengineering.com\/2014\/10\/attack-of-week-poodle.html'>POODLE<\/a>\nmanifests itself in that certain kinds of secure connections are no longer\nquite as secure as they're supposed to be, so until you fix this for your\nInternet-connected applications, your data may be at risk. <span class='nobr'>But the secondary<\/span> problem is that, until fixed on your system, your\nInternet-connected applications like Lightroom may experience seemingly\nrandom network errors as more and more remote sites, in an effort to\nprotect their users' data, completely disable support for the insecure\nprotocol.<\/p>\n\n<p>(A tertiary problem is that folks running into these networking problems while\nusing my Lightroom plugins blame\nthe plugin and inundate me with bug reports.)<\/p>\n\n<p style='font-size:110%; margin-top:40px'><b>How to fix for Mac OS X:<\/b><\/p>\n\n<p>Install Apple's latest security update (which you should be doing anyway). That's it. You're done.<\/p>\n\n<p style='font-size:110%; margin-top:40px'><b>How to fix for Windows:<\/b><\/p>\n\n<p>If you use any of <a href='\/blog\/lightroom-goodies\/'>my\nLightroom plugins<\/a>, the easiest way to fix it is to upgrade to the\nlatest version of the plugin. <span class='nobr'>As of versions<\/span> that <span class='nobr'>I released<\/span> yesterday, all\nmy plugins do <span class='nobr'>a one<\/span>-time check to see whether you're vulnerable, and if so,\npop up <span class='nobr'>a dialog<\/span> that offers to fix it for you:<\/p>\n\n<div class='ic'><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/i\/lr\/POODLE-dialog.png\" width=\"600\" height=\"362\"\nclass=\"raw\"\nid=\"iPOODLE_dialog\"\/><\/div>\n\n<p>Just click on the <b>[fix now]<\/b> button and the plugin will fix the problem\n(disable SSL support in Internet Options, and enable TLS support.).<\/p>\n\n<p>If you don't use any of my plugins, or if you didn't fix it the one time\nthe dialog (perhaps unexpectedly) popped up, you can use my free <a\nhref='\/blog\/lightroom-goodies\/sysinfo'>my System\nInformation plugin<\/a> to check\/fix your system any time:<\/p>\n\n<div class='ic'><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/i\/lr\/POODLE-sysinfo.png\" width=\"650\" height=\"589\"\nclass=\"raw\"\nid=\"iPOODLE_sysinfo\"\/><\/div>\n\n<p>The <b>[how to fix]<\/b> button brings you to the same dialog shown earlier,\noffering to fix it immediately for you.<\/p>\n\n<p>In either case, the plugin fixes applications like Internet Explorer and\nLightroom that use the base Windows connection library. Some third-party\nbrowsers do their own networking, so must be fixed separately. <span class='nobr'>If you have<\/span>\ncustom browsers on Windows, see <a\nhref='http:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/199035\/what-is-the-poodle-vulnerability-and-how-can-you-protect-yourself\/'>this\npage<\/a>.
