Continuing the story of my last post, “<\/span>Revisiting Kyoto\u2019s Fall Colors: Shugakuin Imperial Villa Last November<\/a>”<\/span>, on a day<\/span> with friends last November in Kyoto, Japan filled with photographic delights, the story had ended\nwith our finishing\na visit<\/span> to the Shugakuin Imperial Villa<\/a>. We had some<\/span> time before lunch, so\nwe paid a quick<\/span> visit to the Saginomori Shrine (\u9dfa\u68ee\u795e\u793e).<\/span><\/p>\n\n

A small wall has “<\/span>wish plaques”<\/span>, where people write their wishes. Presumably, the shrine will burn them\nlater in a ceremony<\/span> (like this small ceremony<\/a>,\nor this very large one<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n

People often wish\nfor happiness<\/a> or for health<\/a>, but\nthe girl who wrote the one whose text was visible to me had more specific\nideas:<\/p>\n\n

For lunch, we treated ourselves to French, at La Verveine<\/a> for a $20 meal that in France\nwould cost, we were told (by a Frenchman<\/span>) 5× the price.<\/p>\n\n

This appetizer was much<\/i> better than my quick photo of it would indicate.<\/p>\n\n

I couldn't do the photography justice, so I put<\/span> the camera away until the after-dinner coffee.<\/p>\n\n
