It's been a busy week. As I mentioned<\/span><\/a> in my\nprevious post, we took a weekend<\/span> trip to Aomori in the far north of Japan's\nmain island, and on the way home I came<\/span> down with a cold.<\/span> I'm finally<\/span> feeling better today.<\/p>\n\n

While driving around the mountainous coast of the far northwest corner\nof Japan's main island, I came across<\/span> a tree<\/span> full of beautiful Japanese\ncamellia (otometsubaki<\/i> \u00b7 \u4e59\u5973\u693f).<\/span> They're not difficult to find, but\npristine examples within easy reach and not molested by wind are a bit<\/span> more\ndifficult. I've gotten decent photos on only one other occasion, mentioned in\n“<\/span>An Amazing Day of Photography at Some Eastern-Kyoto Temples<\/a>”<\/span>\nand in a followup<\/span><\/a> some time later.<\/p>\n\n

I haven't gone through the photos from the Aomori trip yet, but this one caught my eye while loading them into Lightroom.\nMaybe the bokeh<\/a> isn't everyone's cup of tea, but I like<\/span> this kind\nof shot so much (the sharp edge of the petals diffusing away into a milky<\/span> blur) that I lead<\/span> my blog post\nabout\nthe lens that took it<\/a> with a similar<\/span> shot taken that first time I got<\/span> nice photos of a camellia.<\/span><\/p>\n\n

The flower is remarkably beautiful in a Disney<\/span> princess kind of way, but\nthis shot is dark and brooding because it's underexposed, because I was<\/span>\nstuck trying a new<\/span> kind of lens CPU that gives the same\nwildly-erratic exposure problems that the first kind of lens CPU\nthat I tired<\/span><\/a> gave me. Sigh.<\/p>\n\n

Anyway, I set the proper white balance, and applied the slight crop\nneeded to make this desktop-background version, and here we go. Otherwise,\nit's just as imported into Lightroom.<\/p>\n\n

I have a bazillion other photos of the same flower, so I'm sure at least\na couple<\/span> more will find there way to my blog sooner or later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
