Fumie had a ballet performance this weekend down in Nagaokakyo City, and\nI had<\/span> some hours to kill after dropping her off for the pre-performance\nrehearsal, so I met<\/span> up with some friends to visit some local sites with the\ncamera.<\/p>\n\n

The little lake between the road and the shrine has a series<\/span> of\nboardwalks on it, and it seems that they were all recently rebuilt with\nbare wood....<\/p>\n\n

I'd think it'd look better with some nice stain, but perhaps they'll let\nnature do that over time. For reference, here's what it looked like a year<\/span>\nand a half<\/span> ago:<\/p>\n\n

It was cold and the rain was increasing, so didn't spend much time\naround the actual shrine complex. But for reference<\/span>, this is the location\nwhere I shot<\/span> “<\/span>Cute Little Melodrama in Five Photos<\/a>”<\/span> a couple<\/span> of years\nago.<\/p>\n\n

We took a couple of hours for a long<\/span> early lunch to escape the weather,\nduring which the rain mostly stopped, so we headed into the mountains for\n15 minutes to check out the Yokokuji Temple (\u694a\u8c37\u5bfa)<\/span> that we'd seen on the\nmap.<\/p>\n\n

This temple doesn't have a lot of cherry trees, so it wasn't the prime\ntime for its foliage. I suspect<\/span> it'd be wonderful\nin the summer and awesome in the fall. But I\nliked<\/span> it nevertheless due to its simple authenticity. It exists<\/span> to serve the locals, and as such is not a tourist<\/span> destination. In fact, we were the only people\nthere.<\/p>\n\n

There were two paths up the mountain to a sub<\/span> temple, one of which was a set<\/span> of covered stairs. We took that<\/span> path down.<\/p>\n\n

We eventually returned to the cherry blossoms of the first place we were\nat, and although the rain had stopped, the wind had picked up considerably\nto frozen gusts that sliced right through you, so I didn't<\/span> use the camera\nagain, and was happy when I could<\/span> retreat to the comfort of the concert\nhall and Fumie's performance in The Nutcracker<\/i>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
