Dipping my pen again into the very deep well that was November's visit to the Seifuso Villa (\u6e05\u98a8\u8358)<\/span> in Kyoto, today's post has a bit<\/span> more from\nearly on in the visit first seen in\n“<\/span>Entrance Foyer to the Seifuso Villa in Kyoto<\/a>”<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n

I showed the garden's formal tea house in “<\/span>Approaching the Tea House at\nKyoto\u2019s Seifuso Villa<\/a>”<\/span>. Near it are a few<\/span> small buildings loosely connected with shared outside passageways....\none building being a prep<\/span> room for the staff, another a waiting<\/span> room for guests, and finally a lesser<\/span>-class tea room...<\/p>\n\n

Next to the waiting room was a tea house of lesser status. The next two<\/span>\nphotos of our host, Will Baber (a professor<\/span> at Kyoto University's business\nschool), makes for an interesting comparison of widely-differing perspective\neffects possible with a wide<\/span>-angle lens. In the first<\/span> photo he looks tiny,\nand in the second positively ginormous. He's in the<\/span> same room in both shots...<\/p>\n\n\n

The square on the floor in front of Will's feet above make it clear that\nthis is a tea<\/span> room. That bit of tatami mat can be removed, revealing place\nwere a pot<\/span> of tea can be heated over charcoal (the kind of charcoal,\nactually, being put to alternative uses as seen here<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n

Also, compare the ceiling here with that of the waiting room above...\nthe ceiling on the right side of this room (the side for the guest) is of a\nmuch<\/span> higher status than the waiting-room ceiling, which itself is of a\nhigher<\/span> status than the host-side (left side) of this room . I wish I<\/span>'d\ntaken a photo<\/span> of the ceiling in the staff\/prep room... I'm sure it<\/span> would\nhave been of an appropriately-lower class still.<\/p>\n\n

Here's another shot of the same room from the same location with the same lens, but with a composition<\/span>\nthat looks completely normal this time (no mini\/huge effects... just Damien peeking in)...<\/p>\n\n\n

The photo above originally had someone walking away in the background,\nand I was<\/span> going to post it here like that, but on a lark<\/span> I tried<\/span> painting\nout the whole guy roughly with Lightroom 5<\/span>'s new Spot Healing Brush. I had absolutely<\/span> no expectation that the result would be anything but laughable,\nbut to my surprise it was actually pretty good for the 10 seconds of work\nthat I put<\/span> into it... good enough to spend a bit<\/span> more time tweaking it. It\nwon't pass even the most basic inspection, but at first glance it's good\nenough.<\/p>\n\n
