For those hanging on the edge of their seat as to my travel schedule, here's a short<\/span>\nfollowup to\n“<\/span>Got to the Airport a Day<\/span> Early to Find my Flight Delayed Four Days<\/a>”<\/span>\nand\n“<\/span>Finally Got My Return Flight Rescheduled<\/a>”<\/span>....<\/p>\n\n

TL;DR version: Canceled again.<\/p>\n\n

I was supposed to leave Akron Ohio this evening, but United Airlines\ncanceled my flight (again), and not due to weather (again). Both times now\nit's been canceled well in advance of the actual flight. My educated<\/span> guess\nis that they decide they need the plane more importantly elsewhere.<\/p>\n\n

Anyway, the current schedule now is to go out on Sunday night, stay in\nSan Francisco on Sunday night, leave from San Francisco on Monday morning,\nand arrive in Osaka on Tuesday night.<\/p>\n\n

We'll see.<\/p>\n\n

Update:<\/b> big thanks to the hotel I'd booked for my overnight in\nSan Francisco, The Dylan at SFO<\/a>, for\nallowing me to move my reservation to the new day even though it was past\ntheir cancellation-cutoff time.<\/p>\n\n

Update:<\/b> on a whim<\/span> I took<\/span> a look<\/span> at the how the Chicago→SFO flight I was<\/span> supposed to be on is doing,\nand see: “<\/span>Estimated Departure 1<\/span> Hour 38 Minutes Late (Delayed - Cargo loading)<\/i>”<\/span>. Ugh, glad I missed<\/span> it, I guess.<\/span><\/p>\n\n

Update:<\/b> now it's “<\/span>2 Hours 13<\/span> Minutes Late (Delayed - Aircraft\nservicing)<\/i>”<\/span>. I guess<\/span> I shouldn't<\/span> be\nsurprised... looking at that flight's\nhistory<\/a> on FlightAware.com, it seems to rarely be less than an hour\nlate getting out, often much more. It looks<\/span> to have gotten away on time only\ntwo or three times in the last month. Ugh.<\/p>\n\n

\"Statistically, when taking into consideration sample size, standard\ndeviation, and mean, this flight is on-time more often than 0% of other\nflights.<\/i>\" — flightstats.com giving it the worst\npossible score<\/a> in on-time performance.<\/p>\n\n

Watching the connecting flight I'm supposed to take on Sunday get more\nand more delayed (now almost three hours), and considering that it has\nalmost a 0% on-time rating, I just changed<\/span> my reservation to a direct<\/span>\nflight out of Cleveland. It's less convenient<\/span>, but less chance of stranding\nme.<\/p>\n\n

Half an hour ago it said \"Departed Gate 2 Hours 35<\/span> Minutes Late, taxiing to runway (Delayed - Aircraft servicing)<\/i>\", but it still hasn't taken off. Glad I switched.<\/span><\/p>\n\n

Final? update: it took 45 minutes after it took off (and after FlightAware.com<\/a> started showing realtime data) for United to update the status to “<\/span>in flight”<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n
