A short followup to my travel woes that I wrote<\/span> about<\/a> the other day....<\/p>\n\n

It took almost three days, but I was<\/span> finally\nable to get through to United Airlines today, to reschedule my trip back\nhome to Japan. I'd originally<\/span> been scheduled to\nvisit a\ndear<\/span> friend<\/a> with a two<\/span>-day stopover in\nMilwaukee, but that had to be canceled when United decided it would rather\nuse the plane that was supposed to service Cleveland to instead service its\nhub in Chicago. (Probably a smart business move that benefits the most\npeople, but the short end of the stick is the short end of the stick, and\nthat's what I got in this case.) The best they<\/span>\ncould come up with is a flight<\/span> to San Francisco\non Friday, and then from there to Japan on Saturday.<\/p>\n\n

I asked what I'm supposed to do in San Francisco between the 11pm\narrival and the 11am departure; the lady said sheepishly that I could<\/span> just stay at the airport. Sigh. I went and<\/span> booked my own hotel. My flight was not\ncanceled due to weather, but because United felt like using the plane\nelsewhere, so they should have covered the hotel, I'd think.<\/p>\n\n

At least I'm “<\/span>stuck”<\/span> in a comfortable<\/span> place\nat my folks' place here in frozen Ohio, helping out around the house\nbetween trying to call the airlines and taking pictures of frozen\nbirds<\/a>. So many thousands<\/span> stuck at airports\nhad it so very much worse. I'm only out<\/span> two hotel\nnights, and I missed<\/span> meeting friends I'd not seen\nin a decade,<\/span> but I can<\/span>\nremedy that with another trip when it gets warmer.<\/p>\n\n
