My winter trip from Kyoto to where I grew<\/span> up in Ohio was via Tokyo, and\non the way to Tokyo from Kyoto we had a nice<\/span> view of Mt. Fuji, and of\ncourse, one must take a photo.<\/span> Unfortunately the pilot neglected to mention\nFuji was just outside the window until we were almost completely past, so\nthe photo ended up being through the window at a fairly<\/span> strong angle. The result<\/span> is ho-hum, but there it is.<\/p>\n\n

As far as from-an-airplane-window photos go, I much prefer<\/span> the shots in\n“<\/span>View from the\nWindow Seat<\/a>”<\/span> five years ago.<\/p>\n\n

In Tokyo, I had quite a long walk for my transfer to the trans-Pacific flight, but I had<\/span> plenty of time...<\/p>\n\n

At the end of the tunnel was a tall atrium with escalators\ncriss-crossing on the way up. It seemed<\/span> photogenic at the time, but perhaps\nI needed<\/span> a wider<\/span> angle....<\/p>\n\n

Oh well. I like the tunnel shot.<\/p>\n\n

On the 13-hour transpacific flight I was<\/span> blessed to sit next to an\ninteresting conversationalist, but the ANA airplane had some kind of new\nbutt-sliding seats that didn't actually recline. They are perhaps\ncomfortable up to a certain<\/span> height, but I'm well beyond whatever that\nheight is, and the flight ended up being one of the most uncomfortable\ntrans-Pacific flight's (of about 70 or 80) I've ever had.<\/p>\n\n

A 1½ hour mechanical delay in getting out of Tokyo meant that I\nmissed<\/span> my connection in Chicago, but I was<\/span> able to snag a flight<\/span>\nwithin four or five hours... a much<\/span> better situation than last\nyear (written about in “<\/span>Thank You Anonymous Hero at\nChicago O\u2019Hare\u2019s Gate E2a<\/a>”<\/span>).<\/p>\n\n

I got to my folks' place at 5pm. In bed by<\/span> 6pm, and I slept<\/span> until 7am.\nJet lag, which is normally crushing, has been wonderfully minor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
