I've tried getting this post done every day since “<\/span>Little Pink Flowers<\/a>”<\/span>\n5<\/strike>\n6<\/strike>\n7<\/strike>\n8<\/strike>\n9<\/strike>\n10<\/strike>\n11\ndays ago, but I keep<\/span> getting caught up with Lightroom plugin work<\/a>. I guess<\/span> the balance between plugins and blog varies over time, with “<\/span>blog”<\/span> on\nthe short end these days.<\/p>\n\n

Anyway, the “<\/span>Little Pink Flowers”<\/span> post was from an outing a couple<\/span> of weeks ago\nwhen I showed<\/span> a visitor<\/span> a bit<\/span> around some of the fringe countryside areas of Kyoto. Our first<\/span> stop was the Nishimura Stonecarver's garden<\/a>,\nan amazing place that has its own category<\/a> on my blog...<\/p>\n\n

Then we made a brief stop at the\nTanukitanisan Fudouin Temple<\/a> (\u72f8\u8c37\u5c71\u4e0d\u52d5\u9662)<\/span> where I snapped<\/span> a photo<\/span> of a carving<\/span>\non a sub<\/span>-temple for “<\/span>everyday life”<\/span>...<\/p>\n\n

Then we popped up to Ohara and the Sanzen'in Temple (\u4e09\u5343\u9662).<\/span> At one point<\/span> inside a little<\/span> boy came around the corner\nand saw me (and likely that I looked<\/span> obviously different from people he normally sees) and just stood there looking at me,\ntaking me in. I snapped<\/span> a shot.<\/span><\/p>\n\n

After several seconds he apparently decided that I was<\/span> neither a threat<\/span>\nnor a source<\/span> of treats, and proceeded to go on his way.<\/p>\n\n

Later in the garden I noticed these stone faces rising from the moss...<\/p>\n\n

I'd never noticed them before, but in looking around now I found<\/span> many.\nI'll have to go back when the light is better to try photographing them\nall.<\/p>\n\n

This next picture was taken quickly when I noticed<\/span> a group<\/span> of three\nyoung-at-heart ladies in their 70s or 80s were forming a human<\/span> chain to\nallow one on the end to reach over a pond<\/span> to touch a stream<\/span> of water coming\nfrom a bamboo<\/span> pipe....<\/p>\n\n

I'm not sure what the deal is with the water and having to reach out\nover the pond, but it's a thing<\/span> at the temple.<\/p>\n\n

Anyway, in picking photos to include on this blog post I realized<\/span> that I\nneglected<\/span> to get an “<\/span>establishing shot”<\/span> that shows the wider context of the\npond, but I knew<\/span> I'd taken such a shot<\/span> during a previous<\/span> visit. Lightroom\nprovides numerous ways to find photos, in this case all would be slow.<\/p>\n\n

Several days of plugin development later, I came up<\/span> with an extremely\nfast way to search my 130,000-photo catalog for nearby photos, and voila,\nhere are a couple<\/span> from 2010:<\/p>\n\n\n

As a bonus, I found some that I'd posted<\/a> in 2011 but forgotten about.<\/p>\n\n

On the way out of the temple you pass under a low<\/span>-hanging branch that seems to have interesting leaves... after taking this shot\nthe other day...<\/p>\n\n

I'm not sure that the leaf pictures are particularly compelling, but the\nability to instantaneously see photos from other times, taken in the same\nimmediate area, makes me a bit<\/span> giddy. I guess<\/span> I'm just geeky that way.<\/p>\n\n

We then took a drive on little-used roads through the deep mountains north of Kyoto, stopping by a little<\/span>\nvillage...<\/p>\n\n

Elsewhere in the village we came across an old couple harvesting rice, by hand, with just a sickle<\/span> and hard work...<\/p>\n\n
