Other recent examples\ninclude <a href='\/blog\/2012-11-28\/2155'>this<\/a> and <a\nhref='\/blog\/2013-02-11\/2205#016036'>this<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n<p>Getting a nice shot is tougher than you might imagine, mostly because of\nother people: unless you've got the place to yourself, others might be in\nyour way or in your light (or in your view in the garden), and more importantly, you\ndon't want to be <span class='nobr'>a disturbing<\/span> influence to others.<\/p>\n\n<p>I also still don't have a good sense of what aperture to use\n(that is, how much <a href='\/blog\/2013-07-26\/2291'>background blur to create<\/a>). <span class='nobr'>To cover<\/span> my basses at least to some extent, <span class='nobr'>I took the<\/span> above scene at three different apertures... sweep the mouse\nside to side over the photo below to see them:<\/p>\n\n\n<style type=\"text\/css\">div#dkiuPBQydQydfcA img {  width:439px; well in this composition,\nat least better than it would have in the tighter sequence above, which is\nwhy <span class='nobr'>I removed<\/span> it there.<\/p>\n\n<p>If I were to spend some time with this sequence, <span class='nobr'>I'd\nadjust<\/span> the crop to center the tea and sweets <span class='nobr'>a\nbit<\/span> better, but that ship has sailed; <span class='nobr'>I\nstarted<\/span> writing this post three days ago and it just does not want\nto get finished, so I'm cutting corners.<\/p>\n\n<p>I'll close this post with a shot of Paul Barr next to me, attempting his\nown version of a &#8220;tea and sweets&#8221; and trying to express through it\n&mdash; is foremost <span class='nobr'>a soothing,<\/span> healing experience (despite often being <span class='nobr'>a source<\/span>\nof great frustration).<\/p>\n\n<p>I'm sure I'm not the only one for whom this is true, but everyone\nfeeling this way must remember not to be an impediment to others'\nmore-traditional sense of enjoyment (to not &#8220;disturb their <i>wa<\/i>&#8221;, so\nto speak). <span class='nobr'>To my shame<\/span> <span class='nobr'>I think<\/span> <span class='nobr'>I often<\/span> failed in this respect when <span class='nobr'>I was<\/span>\nyounger, perhaps getting too caught up in the selfish pursuit of my own\nenjoyment. <span class='nobr'>I'm hopefully<\/span> better now.<\/p>\n\n<p>One must also remember that temples and shrines are religious sites of\nspiritual importance to most visitors, so that should also guide one's sense of courtesy.<\/p>\n\n<p>Occasionally I'll purposefully partake in one of these experiences without the camera,\nto give myself another chance at the deeper, intended experience, but so far it's always\nbeen frustrating, seeing great shots in my mind and not getting <span class='nobr'>a chance<\/span> to make them real. <span class='nobr'>I suppose<\/span> the resulting photos are more real to me than the actual experience, which now that <span class='nobr'>I put<\/span> it that way,\nsounds pretty pathetic.<\/p>\n\n<p>Anyway, whatever, more pretty pics coming soon! :-)<\/p>\n\n\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Every time I revisit my Lightroom library from last autumn's many photo outings, I find so many things waiting to be posted.
