The view above, of the entrance gate to the Honen'in Temple (\u6cd5\u7136\u9662)<\/span> in eastern Kyoto, is from the outside looking in,\nas opposed to the views in yesterday's post<\/a>, which were from the inside looking out.<\/p>\n\n

The path leading to the entrance gate is in two parts... the first being\nan exceptionally-well-done cobblestone path with what seems to me to be a\ndecidedly<\/span> modern feel...<\/p>\n\n

Frankly, I find the modern feel to be a bit<\/span> jarring in the rustic traditional temple setting, but I like<\/span>\nthe cobblestone path a bit<\/span> better than what follows directly in front of the main gate: plain dirt.<\/p>\n\n

The duo-nature path includes some cobblestone steps rising toward the\ngate, and in the lead photo I placed<\/span> myself such that the lens was just\nslightly below the level of the dirt part of the path, thereby rendering it\ninvisible in that scene.<\/p>\n\n

The thatched gate roof had lush moss, which I always<\/span> love but can never do justice in a photograph.<\/span>..<\/p>\n\n

Normally you can not enter the temple buildings nor see the private\ngardens, but they are apparently opened for a few<\/span> days every few years, and\ndue to Dameon's encyclopedic knowledge of Kyoto temples, our visit this day\nwas not a coincidence.<\/span><\/p>\n\n

You are not allowed to take photos in the buildings, but I was<\/span> permitted\nto take them of the garden areas...<\/p>\n\n

I love how a leaf is used for the spout. The only other<\/span> time I've ever seen that was in an outside basin at this very temple, the first time I visited<\/span>\nit 8½ years ago:<\/p>\n\n\n
