Continuing the long story started in\n“Anatomy of a Photoshoot<\/span> by Someone Who Has No Clue About Them<\/a>”\nand continued in\npart two<\/a>, this is the third of what looks to be a four<\/span>-part series about a photoshoot<\/span>\nPaul Barr and I did<\/span> with a mutual<\/span> friend, Yuko, at\nthe\nFushimi Inari Shrine<\/a> (\u4f0f\u898b\u7a32\u8377\u5927\u793e)<\/span> in Kyoto.<\/p>\n\n

It was a first in many respects for all of us. We had a<\/span> fun time.<\/p>\n\n\n

All those photos and all that silliness makes one thirsty, so we stopped at a cafe<\/span> for coffee. (There are numerous private\nhouses on the shrine grounds that open their first floor as a cafe.<\/span>)<\/p>\n\n

The big window next to Yuko made for gorgeous light, but the cafe also\nhad random incandescent and fluorescent lights, killing an easy\nwhite-balance solution, so rather than have half her face tinged in green<\/a>, I went with<\/span> a B&W treatment, but I'm not sure it's really working...<\/p>\n\n

It was easier to work with the light when she turned away from the window to talk to Paul; though the light\nwas not as directional, the result is better...<\/p>\n\n

Paul and I had ice coffee, which at many places come pre-packaged in cartons like milk, but here they\nactually fresh-brewed special ice-coffee beans, and brought it to you piping hot to pour over ice...<\/p>\n\n

Refreshed, we went back out to continue up the mountain and to try more (of the same poses we've already seen in the first two posts)...<\/p>\n\n

It wasn't crowded, so with patience and luck we could get long shots of the path all to ourselves.<\/p>\n\n

Despite the use of the ColorChecker in this area, I couldn't<\/span> come up with a realistic<\/span> color for the shots here,\nso I have<\/span> the next one in B&W, and the lead photo of this post in mostly-desaturated pastel.<\/p>\n\n

There was a large expanse of the mountain left to explore, but we were running out of time, so we decided to save the rest for another day. On the way<\/span> back we ran into this nice family, I think<\/span> from New Zealand.<\/p>\n\n

At some point Yuko paused in the shade of a building<\/span> to put on some lip balm, which the camera could not let pass...<\/p>\n\n

A stone fence overlooking a slope of the mountain provided what I\nthought<\/span> would be a nice<\/span> place for a portrait,<\/span> so I posed<\/span> Yuko, who apparently felt\nit was silly...<\/p>\n\n

Paul's shot has more distortion than I care<\/span> for, and I'd think it's because he's too close at 70mm, but this next shot by me at 85mm is actually\nprobably from a closer<\/span> location (because Yuko fills the frame more than 70mm→85mm seems to explain), yet it's not afflicted by the distortion\nI see<\/span> above. I don't<\/span> think it's either lens (both are pro-level lenses), so I'm not sure how to explain it. It's probably<\/span> her leaning-back pose.<\/p>\n\n
