I'd like to share a bit more from my New Year's trip to visit my folks\nin Ohio. It was notable<\/span> in particular because it was the first time for my\nparents to actually meet my wife's parents.<\/p>\n\n

Anthony and I left Kyoto first, having been seen off at the Osaka airport by Fumie's folks...<\/p>\n\n

Anthony had a lot of homework over the break (boo, hiss), so we had to squeeze study in everywhere\nwe could. Here, at the gate while waiting for the plane, he's memorizing Japan's 47 “states” and their capitals...<\/p>\n\n

After a somewhat harrowing flight via Tokyo and Chicago (see “Thank You\nAnonymous Hero at Chicago O\u2019Hare\u2019s Gate E2a<\/a>”) and a couple<\/span> of days\nwithout luggage, we had a quiet<\/span> Christmas in Ohio...<\/p>\n\n

Fumie and her folks came in via Toronto (via a horribly-late flight<\/a>). Her folks<\/span> had never been to Ohio, and mine never to Kyoto, so after 14\nyears of marriage, our folks could finally meet.<\/p>\n\n

I normally would take a group shot like this via the intervalometer, to\nhave a shot<\/span> fired every two or three seconds so that we'd hopefully get a\ngood<\/span> one, but this time I tried<\/span> a CamRanger<\/a>, which allowed me to fire\nthe shutter from my iPhone. The only problem<\/span> is that the button on the\nscreen has no tactile feedback, so it was a bit<\/span> challenging to hit it\nblindly.<\/p>\n\n

Fumie's folks then took the opportunity to try things some new things: feeding the birds, and sledding...<\/p>\n\n

There was much more snow play, and that most-excellent visit to a\nLEGO<\/span> store<\/a> before we returned to Kyoto, via Chicago and Tokyo.\nOn the short<\/span> final segment, a Japanese<\/span> domestic\nflight from Tokyo on ANA, we for some reason got bumped up to business\nclass, which thrilled Anthony to no end:<\/p>\n\n
