Going back to round out my posts about my first visit to the\nHosen-in Temple<\/a> (\u5b9d\u6cc9\u9662)<\/span> in Kyoto's mountain suburb of Ohara last fall,\ntoday's post picks up after parts two<\/a> and three<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n

The path from the main road is flanked by stalls selling all manner of\nsnacks. These senbei<\/i><\/a> were pretty\nand, according to Damien and Paul who accompanied me on this trip, tasty;\nI generally<\/span> shy away from carbs, so I photographed<\/span> rather than ate...<\/p>\n\n

We got off that main path and took a back<\/span> route through village streets that Damien knew, freeing ourselves from the crowded path of\ntouristy concessions. It was just<\/span> a normal<\/span> unphotogenic village, but there's always beauty and interest if you take the time to look.<\/p>\n\n

I had high hopes for these peppers when Paul pointed them out, but the\nresult is just boring. I would<\/span> have liked to get closer, but they were set\nback from the road and I didn't<\/span> want to step onto someone's property.\nHere's the scene...<\/p>\n\n

Damien<\/a> is standing\nin front of the tsukubai<\/i> water basin seen in close up in the first\nphoto above (and in many shots on the previous post<\/a> in this\nseries), but he's actually contemplating what to do about the single leaf\nin the gravel by his right foot (which I must<\/span> admit was photogenic; my shot\nof it is here<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n

Outside the rock garden back near the entrance, a wider<\/span> shot of the scene\nseen in the initial\npost<\/a> shows the Mt. Fuji<\/span> shape that some trees\nhave been pruned to....<\/p>\n\n

The Housen-in temple is immediately adjacent to the Shorin-in Temple (\u52dd\u6797\u9662),<\/span> which we did not visit on this trip, but could see some nice views of\nthe front grounds.
