Continuing to dip into my 2010-and-before archives because my main\ncomputer is in the shop, today's posts are various views from the\nShogunzuka overlook (\u5c06\u8ecd\u5bb6)<\/span> in eastern Kyoto, a 30<\/span>-minute hike (or a\n5-minute drive) from my place.<\/p>\n\n

I used Lightroom's Map module to bring up all the images that are\ngeoencoded to that spot (so that excludes early images before I started<\/span> to\ngeoencode), and picked some. These were taken from 2007 to 2010, with a\nNikon<\/span> D200 or a Nikon<\/span> D700. Taking advantage of the modern render engine in\nLightroom 4,<\/span> I picked<\/span> images that I could<\/span> give a bit<\/span> of punch to....<\/p>\n\n

Visiting the “nearby photos” under any image brings you to the large set\nof images I've posed from up there over the years. I've made the trip in\nsearch of a nice<\/span> sunset many, many times. The majority<\/span> of times I end<\/span> up\nwith absolutely nothing to show for it; photos that appear on my blog are\nfrom the few times it's notably photogenic.<\/p>\n\n

The next few photos are from my first visit up there with any kind of skill\nwith a camera,<\/span> in July 2007's simply-titled “Views of Kyoto From\nShougun-zuka<\/a>”. It was right<\/span> after a typhoon<\/span> had blown through. To say the<\/span> view was “dynamic” would be quite the understatement...<\/p>\n\n\n

By a year later, in mid 2008, I had<\/span> a nice<\/span> tripod<\/a>, so I tried<\/span> some night shots,\nas seen in “Kyoto, From Shogunzuka, at Night<\/a>”...<\/p>\n\n\n

I'm not excited about this last one, but there it is. It's from the<\/span> outing that produced “Not Quite Giving Up on Sunsets... Yet<\/a>” in November 2008.<\/p>\n\n

This next photo is from toward the end of that outing... the technical quality is as bad as the one above, but the sheer dynamic range of nature makes me like this one.<\/p>\n\n
