Last November I posted a wigglegram on\n“Elegance in Kyoto\u2019s Tenjyuan Garden<\/a>”. (If you don't know what wigglegram is,\ncheck out the post and be sure to move your mouse over the picture). Even though I shot<\/span> more than 70 gigabytes worth of photos that day, I still<\/span> haven't shared anything else from that garden except for one representative photo on “A Long<\/span> But Photogenic November in Kyoto<\/a>”.<\/p>\n\n

So, today I'm finally posting a few<\/span> more from that visit to the Tenjyuan\nGarden (\u5929\u6388\u5eb5),<\/span> a sub<\/span>-temple of the famous Nanzenji Temple<\/a>. It was my<\/span> first visit.<\/p>\n\n

I seem to have a bunch like this on today's post... sort of soft and\nundefined. The light<\/span> was very strong\/harsh that\nday, making many shots difficult, so most results that ended up appealing\nto me were all-in-the-shade soft ones.<\/p>\n\n

I really like this next one, though I can't<\/span> put into words why....<\/p>\n\n

A gate between sections of the temple compound, a difficult<\/span> mix between brilliant sunshine and deep shadow...<\/p>\n\n

It's not really that appealing a shot.<\/span> The aforementioned wigglegram<\/a>\nwas taken on the other side of the gate where there was more uniform shade,\nwhich is why it came out better. In it, you can see the gate in the background.<\/p>\n\n

The two ladies that kindly posed for the wigglegram made the photogenic temple areas all the better, so\nlet's see other shots with them...<\/p>\n\n

At one point after we'd taken the wigglegram and had moved on to another area (a nice<\/span> garden with a lake<\/span> in the center), Paul was taking some\nshots of them and I joined<\/span> in...<\/p>\n\n

I realized a bit too late that I was<\/span> spoiling Paul's shots by\ndistracting the girls.... my being there right behind Paul with my camera\nmeant that the girls split their attention between me and Paul. Big mistake<\/span> on my part, sorry Paul. Lesson learned.<\/p>\n\n

Before we parted ways I tried to take a quick<\/span> shot of Paul with the\nladies, but I screwed<\/span> up the focus big time. As I did<\/span> with the shot of Jill<\/a>\nthe other day, I'm trying<\/span> to pull something interesting out of the mistake\nby giving it an “artistic” treatment...<\/p>\n\n

Later I came across another lady in Kimono, but the post in the center of the frame ruins what otherwise would, I think<\/span>, be a great<\/span> shot...<\/p>\n\n

Many scenes at this temple had a great<\/span> sense of depth that I just<\/span>\ncouldn't capture. The layers<\/span> of tree seen in this next shot is a great<\/span>\nexample... in real life it was almost some kind of “hyper 3D” feeling, but the photo just doesn't quite cut it.<\/p>\n\n

While on the subject of “spacey”, here's one I like<\/span> that has almost nothing in focus...<\/p>\n\n
