Here are a few<\/span> more shots of that intense rainbow in Kyoto<\/a> the other day.\nFollowing Damien Douxchamps'<\/a> lead, I moved<\/span> to the other side of the street\nto get the rainbow crossing over Arashiyama's famous Togetsukyo<\/i> bridge (\u6e21\u6708\u6a4b).<\/span><\/p>\n\n

The angle from that side of the bridge also omits the storm clouds seen\nin the previous post, just off to the left, that are providing the rain\nswept in on the wind to create the rainbows, so the clear-sky look seems\na bit<\/span> interesting (if perhaps improbable).<\/p>\n\n

Anyway, back to the west side of the bridge...<\/p>\n\n\n

The green-roofed building that's the “source” of the rainbow above is a restaurant<\/span><\/a>. I might<\/span> bring them a copy<\/span>, but while the rainbow is nice, the photo is\notherwise pretty bad, and the photographer in me sees nothing but the harsh\nlight and utility poles. )-:<\/p>\n\n

It looks a bit<\/span> better with a wider<\/span> lens...<\/p>\n\n

You do not want to go to the Arashiyama area of Kyoto on a weekend<\/span>\nduring fall-foliage or cherry-blossom seasons because it's so ridiculously\ncrowded, but Damien and I were<\/span> just passing through on the way from one\ntemple to another. By this point<\/span> we were sort of miserable in the rain, and\nwhen we saw the rainbow we stopped quickly to shoot it, leaving Damien\nlooking temporarily more like an astronaut than a photographer<\/span>...<\/p>\n\n

And when I mention<\/span> that it was crowded, I do<\/span> not exaggerate. We crossed<\/span> the bridge and I snapped<\/span> this photo:<\/p>\n\n

Arashiyama is a lovely<\/i> area, as the “nearby photos” links under\neach picture shows, but like I said<\/span>, stay away on weekends during these seasons.<\/p>\n\n\n

Finally, here's a panorama<\/span> that I created<\/span> from 14 shots I haphazardly<\/span> fired off, handheld, when I first<\/span> got there. It's not that<\/span> compelling, but Photoshop (CS5) did an amazing job of stitching them together. I touched<\/span> up one area and applied a crop<\/span>,\nbut otherwise it was all automatic...<\/p>\n\n
