I'm exhausted after a long day of photography in north-east Kyoto,\ntemple hopping with Damien\nDouxchamps<\/a> visiting from Tsukuba (near Tokyo). Today's post is just a\nfew<\/span> quick pictures I picked<\/span> out from two of the places.<\/p>\n\n

I used the polarizer filter today quite a bit<\/span> (with moss<\/a> and the leaves<\/a>), and tried\nthe shot above with a\npolarizer<\/span><\/a>, without a polarizer,<\/span> and at half power, and found that it looked best\nwithout. Without the white sheen of the reflections in the lower half of\nthe photo (something the polarizer was quite effective at removing), the\ntray with the tea and sweet was dark and indistinct.<\/p>\n\n

That last one might be a bit disconcerting until you know what's going\non (and perhaps even after). The focus<\/span> is on the floorboards, so the\ngarden beyond the windows is all out of focus, but more than that, you're\nlooking at the out-of-focus garden through old panes of glass that have\ndeveloped strong ripples over the decades. It was pretty<\/span> in real life; I'm not\nsure that the photo is anything but annoying, but we'll see.<\/p>\n\n
