I paid my first visit to the Myouhouin Temple (\u5999\u6cd5\u9662)<\/span> in eastern Kyoto yesterday. The buildings<\/span> are closed to the public except for early November, so I took<\/span> the opportunity to visit\non the first day of this year's open house.<\/p>\n\n

The good news is that the buildings and inner gardens and many artifacts\non display were magnificently beautiful, but the bad news is that\nphotography was not allowed at all. Still, well worth the ¥800 if you can get there\nbefore the open house ends on the 18th.<\/p>\n\n

The first building you enter on the open-house tour is, apparently, the\nold kitchen, and I heard<\/span> that it might be open to the public all year. It's\namazing... you can look up four stories' worth of massive rough-hewn beams\nleading to what looks a bit<\/span> like steeple or belfry, but merely acted like\nchimney. You can see<\/span> the outside view of the building in the last photo on\nthis post.<\/p>\n\n

The outside grounds seem to be always open and free to visit, and being the only place\nI could<\/span> use the camera, so I availed<\/span> myself of the opportunity.<\/p>\n\n

Most of the photos on this post suffer from “an abundance of\nheavy-handed post processing”; that's apparently the mood I'm in today.\nC'est la vie (parfois).<\/i><\/p>\n\n\n\n
