{"id":2117,"date":"2012-10-19T15:40:20","date_gmt":"2012-10-19T06:40:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/regex.info\/blog\/2012-10-19\/2117"},"modified":"2012-10-19T15:40:20","modified_gmt":"2012-10-19T06:40:20","slug":"new-lightroom-plugin-data-explorer-like-the-grid-filter-on-steroids","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/regex.info\/blog\/2012-10-19\/2117","title":{"rendered":"New Lightroom Plugin &#8220;Data Explorer&#8221;: Like the Grid Filter on Steroids"},"content":{"rendered":"\n\n\n<div class='resize_warning' id='arw2117'>\n<b>NOTE<\/b>: Images with an <img class='raw' width='19' height='18' src='\/i\/s\/red_zoomup.gif'\/> icon next to them have been artificially shrunk to better fit your screen; click the icon to restore them, in place, to their regular size.\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>I've just released a new plugin for Adobe Lightroom:<\/p>\n\n<center style='font-size:120%'>\n<span style='font-size:140%; position:relative;top:2px'>&rarr;&nbsp;<\/span>\n<a href='\/blog\/lightroom-goodies\/data-explorer'>Jeffrey's &#8220;Data Explorer&#8221; Lightroom Plugin<\/a>\n<span style='font-size:140%; position:relative;top:2px'>&nbsp;&larr;<\/span>\n<\/center>\n\n<p>It lets you group photos by metadata (e.g. &#8220;what lenses did <span class='nobr'>I use<\/span>\nwith these photos?&#8221;) just like Lightroom's built in Library Grid\nFilter, but the plugin supports <i>many<\/i> more criteria. <span class='nobr'>As of its<\/span>\ninitial release, the plugin provides 109 ways to slice and dice your\nphotos, including things such as &#8220;Which photos have how much crop?&#8221; and\n&#8220;What photos are hidden within collapsed stacks?&#8221; and &#8220;What audio frame\nrates are seen in my videos?&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n<p>Plus 106 more.<\/p>\n\n<p>I started writing it a couple of weeks ago after first creating custom Lightroom camera-calibration\nprofiles (mentioned in\n&#8220;<a class='pt' href='\/blog\/2012-10-10\/2114'>Viewing Anthony\u2019s New Shoes with My New X-Rite ColorChecker Passport<\/a>&#8221;)\nbecause it was maddening to not be able to quickly identify what photos were using which camera profiles.<\/p>\n\n<p>Now I can quickly get:<\/p>\n\n\n<div class='ic tight'><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/i\/lr\/data-explorer-camera-profile-example.png\" width=\"500\" height=\"324\"\nclass=\"raw\"\nid=\"idata_explorer_camera_profile_example\"\/><\/div>\n\n<p>and via the &#8220;isolate&#8221; buttons see the relevant photos.<\/p>\n\n<p>For reasons I can't quite understand, working on this plugin has been <span class='nobr'>a\ndeeply<\/span>-intensive, morning-to-night affair, much to the detriment of my normal\nhome and photo life.<\/p>\n\n<p>Perhaps it's because I particularly like data display, and it's <span class='nobr'>a fun<\/span>\nchallenge to really make the plugin functional and useful and\n<i>elegant<\/i> (or, at least as elegant as Lightroom's minimal plugin\ninfrastructure allows). There are <span class='nobr'>a lot<\/span> of bells and whistles... many\nlittle touches that hopefully most folks will never notice because they\nfeel natural and intuitive, but a <i>lot<\/i> of work has gone into the\ndetails. <span class='nobr'>I'm proud<\/span> of the result.<\/p>\n\n<p>There are many more details and criteria on the to-do list, but <span class='nobr'>I had<\/span> to\ndraw the line somewhere or I'd never get around to releasing the plugin,\nnor to returning to my regularly-scheduled life.<\/p>\n\n<p>I'm looking forward to a bit of the latter soon.
