My previous post<\/a>\npresented 15 different versions of the same portrait photo, concentrating\non the technical side of the wide breadth of processing that I could<\/span>\nachieve with Lightroom.<\/p>\n\n

Prior to publishing that article, I'd asked<\/span> my\npartner-in-portraiture-crime and the photographer of that shot, St\u00e9phane\nBarbery, to come up with his own interesting versions of the photo. He\ndoesn't care for the photo and so his normal processing on it would simply\nbe to delete it, but explained that I was<\/span> working on my own many versions\nand wanted his interpretations for comparison, so he kindly took a shot<\/span> at\nit.<\/p>\n\n

St\u00e9phane often has a different artistic sense<\/a>\nthan I have<\/span> — if I'm to be honest with myself, mine is fairly\nsuperficial — and his processing<\/a> of some\nshots of me a few<\/span> months ago was interesting in how different they were\nfrom what I might<\/span> have done.<\/p>\n\n

St\u00e9phane's eight versions of the photo that appear on this post span\nless a range<\/span> than those on my “let's see what Lightroom can do” post, but\nhe uses crop and subtle lighting more artistically (if that can be said\nabout a photo<\/span> of me). Especially his use of crop is eye opening to me.<\/p>\n\n

I'll mention again that it's unfair to each version that they appear\ntogether in a stream<\/span> of versions that all run into each other. If you can<\/span>\nimagine each in isolation, in a context<\/span> of some appropriate use, then\nthat's a better<\/span> way to judge the effects he's created, and a better<\/span> way to\ntake a lesson<\/span> forward if you see things you want to try with your own\nprocessing.<\/p>\n\n
