(Prior to Lr4, <span class='nobr'>I would<\/span> have used <a\nhref='\/blog\/lightroom-goodies\/gps-proximity'>my Proximity\nSearch plugin<\/a> to find the shot, but that's now superfluous with Lr4.)<\/p>\n\n<p>With both the barbed wire at the bottom and the saw-tooth wire up\ntop, it was clear they didn't want folks running across the tracks.<\/p>\n\n<p>Having taken this shot with a Nikon D200 almost five years ago, <span class='nobr'>I thought<\/span> its sharpening could use\nsome masking, to lower the noise. While sliding the &#8220;Masking&#8221; slider in Lightroom, if you hold\ndown the Option\/Alt key, it shows you where the mask is, and in this case, it made for an interesting result\ndue to the edge-detection algorithm used for the mask.\nHere's <span class='nobr'>a screenshot<\/span> of how it looked in Lightroom (with the &#8220;Masking&#8221; slider marked in red).:<\/p>\n\n<div class='ic'><a name=\"041177\" href='\/i\/JEF_041177-LrMask.jpg'\n><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/i\/JEF_041177-LrMask_sm.jpg\" width=\"690\" height=\"417\"\nalt=\"Lightroom screenshot while in Sharpening-Mask Mode\"\nid=\"i041177_LrMask\"\ntitle=\"Lightroom screenshot while in Sharpening-Mask Mode\"\/><\/a>\n<br\/>Lightroom screenshot while in\n<br\/><span class='caption'>Sharpening-Mask Mode<\/span>\n<\/div>\n\n<p>This reminded me of a post two and <span class='nobr'>a half<\/span> years ago, &#8220;<a\nhref='\/blog\/2010-03-29\/1483' class='pt'>Gettin\u2019 Freaky\nWith Lightroom Tone-Curve Presets<\/a>&#8221;, which totally pushed the\nenvelope on the new tone-mapping features introduced in <span\nclass='nobr'><span class='nobr'>Lightroom 3<\/span><\/span>, creating exceedingly wild results with\ntotally unrealistic tone-map presets. <span class='nobr'>If you don<\/span>'t recall that\nuser-interactive article, pop <a\nhref='\/blog\/2010-03-29\/1483'>over there<\/a> check it out:\nit's perhaps not all that practical, but it's fun.<\/p>\n\n<p>So, <span class='nobr'>I thought<\/span> I'd try some of the funky tone-curve presets presented on\nthat post on this image, and was rudely reminded that they didn't work in\nPV2012, the new Process Version (i.e. develop render engine) default in\nLr4.
