As I wait for my laptop to come back from the shop<\/a>, I realized<\/span> that this gives me an opportunity to actually revisit the 93,462 photos in\nthe Lightroom catalog on my desktop computer, which I haven't<\/span> looked at\nsince moving my photo-processing workflow my laptop a year<\/span> and a half<\/span> ago.<\/p>\n\n

Then, as now, I was always<\/span> behind on what I wanted<\/span> to post, so there\nmust be thousands of things waiting to be shared that will never see the\nlight of day. Lacking the energy for a real<\/span> search, I decided<\/span> to go with the\nfirst thing that caught my eye as I started<\/span> to click around, some photos I\nsnapped<\/span> through the window of our hotel above Nagoya\nStation<\/a> while in town for my brother-in-law's\nwedding<\/a> two years ago. (Nagoya is 45 minutes east of Kyoto by bullet train.)<\/p>\n\n

Photographically they're nothing special, but I like<\/span> the patterns in the shot above.<\/p>\n\n

Sorry about the odd presentation in that last shot... I had to<\/span> compensate for some pretty drastic tilt.<\/p>\n\n

I include this picture because it shows the wider context for the next\nshot. In the wide<\/span> context, you can see the train station from above (as in\nthe first shot) and the expanse of city beyond that, but also at the bottom\nyou can see an orange square.... a little<\/span> shrine.<\/p>\n\n\n

At first glance it looks like the little shrine is right next to a set<\/span>\nof uncovered railroad tracks, next to a bunch<\/span> of covered tracks like in the\nfirst shot. However, while the covered train tracks are at ground level, the\nshrine is on the roof over the 18th floor(!). The track<\/span> next to the shrine\nis, I'm guessing, for the window-washing crane that services the lower\nfloors.<\/p>\n\n

I'm also guessing that the shrine is a private<\/span> one for hotel staff or\nthe like... it's in way too ugly a setting<\/span> to be open to the public, but\nI'm just guessing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
